To start an online game with friends, you need to select Multiplayer as the host in the main menu. From there, you should select "Create" at the bottom left of the menu.

On the right, you can choose the privacy of your game:

  • "Anyone" leaves your game open to the public.
  • "Friends" lets anyone who is your friend on Steam or a similar system see and join your lobby.
  • "Invite Only" creates a system in which you have to give your friends a password invite or send a private invite through a system such as Steam.

If there is someone specific you want to invite through Steam, you can press the + button in one of the four available slots. On PC, this opens your "Friends" tab on Steam, where those who have already opened Baldur's Gate 3 are listed first.

Click the friends you want to invite. Invites can be accepted through the Steam messaging system. If you have launched Baldur's Gate 3, you can accept the invite as follows:

  • Open the Steam interface
  • Go to the "Friends" window
  • Right-click the person you are expecting an invite from and press Messages
  • Accept the invitation on your Messages screen

When all expected members of the party have arrived, they need to click that they are ready. The host can then select "Advance" to start.

How Do You Play Baldur's Gate 3 Split-Screen Couch Co-Op?

You can start Split Screen at any point in your adventure, regardless of whether you are at the beginning or middle of your story

With the game already loaded, press the Options button (PlayStation) or the Guide button (Xbox) on the second player's controller. You cannot start Split Screen from the Main Menu or through the Multiplayer button in the Main Menu.

Once the second player's controller is connected, they will be asked to create their own character if a second original character has not yet been created.

Characters created by Player Two will always be created at the same level as Player One's originally created character to keep balance in your party.

If Player Two has finished for the day but Player One wants to continue, or wants to play alone at another time, they can play single-player. The second original character will remain playable.
