CS:GO 2: What Is the Source 2 Engine?
The most obvious change for any new version of Counter-Strike will be the upgrade to the Source 2 engine. CS:GO currently uses the original Source engine, which dates back to 2004 even though it has been updated over time. The upcoming game will still be the CS:GO we know, but it will run on the Source 2 engine. This can be thought of as a major update to the existing game. The game hasn't been upgraded to the Source 2 engine yet, and Valve hasn't made any official statement about the upgrade so far. It's reported that the new engine will also improve graphical fidelity and optimization. CS:GO cosmetics — knives, stickers, and other in-game items — won't be removed.
When Is CS:GO Source 2 Coming in 2023?
Counter-Strike 2 will launch with a beta in March 2023. At the latest, the beta will be released on April 1. (Or is it an April Fools' joke? :)) About the update, it was commented that "CS:GO Source 2 could now be rolled out ANY day. It'll be a free opt-in DLC available to anyone who wants to join the beta test." It's also been said that the trademarks registered for "Counter-Strike" suggest the phrase "Global Offensive" could be dropped from the name as well.
