Don't Starve Together is the online multiplayer adaptation of Don't Starve, a wilderness survival game uniquely built in an RPG format with open-world exploration elements. In it, you pick a character to play from the game world's heroes, each with unique skills and innate abilities, and try to get through long winters and scorching summers without starving, getting sick, or losing your mind.

But you can't eat meatballs forever! The longer you cook, the more options reveal themselves along with this magical world's mysteries; more ingredients you can turn into delicious life- and sanity-saving recipes in your makeshift crock pot. Here are some of the most essential dishes you should know about:

Pierogi

Some of the easiest dishes are the ones that require a filler — an unspecified food item of a certain type that completes the recipe. To make Pierogi, you need one egg, one vegetable, any meat, and any filler. This not only makes it a fairly accessible dish for newer players, but also one of the well-known healing recipes, especially after boss fights.

That's because Pierogies provide a surprising 40 Health with a decent 20-day shelf life. This fairly long spoilage time makes it suitable for long trips, since you can produce it in bulk and stock up as needed.

Surf 'N' Turf

If your main base camp is near a pond or a flowing river, Surf 'N' Turf will take care of everything you need. Providing 60 Health and 33 Sanity, this dish will get you through long, dreadful nights especially well.

To make it, you need roughly equal amounts of fish, using either two fish and two pieces of meat, three small fish and one piece of meat, or two eels and two pieces of meat. You can also add an inedible to fill the remaining slot if your resources are running low, and if you're playing Wickerbottom you'll enjoy 52.5 Hunger instead of the usual 37.5. If you pass through the Coral Reefs, you can even give it to the Yaarctopus in exchange for a Boat Lantern.

Ice Cream

If you notice your Sanity is low — which happens quite often, and there's no shame in that — Ice Cream is your go-to food for Sanity restoration. Counting as a vegetable in the Don't Starve Together world, which makes a lot of sense when you think about it, this dish gives a staggering 60 Sanity, hitting you like a truck on the first lick and lowering your temperature.

To make it, you need one dairy product, one piece of ice, and two sweeteners. If you're not a big fan of ice cream, a range of other sweet treats are also great for your Sanity, including Bananacue, Jellybean Salad, Vegetable Stinger, Mandrake Soup, and Taffy.

Froggle Bunwich

When you don't have many ingredients left to make a good meal and you're improvising, Froggle Bunwich will do the job and take the edge off your hunger as a nice snack. All you need to do is head to the nearest swamp, catch a few frogs (which are plentiful there), and fill the remaining slots with vegetables and twigs.

Two frogs, giving 20 Health and 37.5 Hunger, are enough to give you two Froggle Bunwiches to tide you over through the night until you catch something more nourishing. Froggle Bunwiches also take 15 days to spoil, so bring them along the next time you go out hunting and foraging. You never know how long you'll be out there.

Beefy Greens

For those with a green thumb, leafy meat can be a great alternative to animal meat. Much easier to hunt, and much easier to get if you have a few Lureplants conveniently placed on floating lily pads where they can't hurt you or overrun your main base, it's one of the best dishes you can learn.

Giving a tremendous 75 Hunger and 40 Health, Beefy Greens can be made with one piece of leafy meat and three vegetables. But if you find it lying around, be careful not to pick it up so you don't anger the fearsome Rabbit Man. They can also sense any meat or eggs you're carrying in your backpack, so make sure to befriend them first with a carrot and a 20-minute, 25/min Sanity aura.

Honey Ham

If you know your way around bees, Honey Ham is another dish that will give you 75 Hunger and 30 Health with a decent, slow 15-day spoilage time. To make it, you only need one hand-crafted honeycomb of honey for two pieces of meat, but it needs at least three different ingredients to work.

Like many crock pot fillers in Don't Starve Together, Honey Ham is also one of the recipes that can be produced regularly with the right setup, which makes it a bit trickier to prepare for newer players still figuring out the best way to build it.
