How Do You Publish Shorts on YouTube?

Shorts are short-form videos and are essentially YouTube's answer to TikTok. Similar to how you can create and publish TikTok videos using the TikTok app, you can record, edit, and publish short videos directly from the YouTube mobile app. And in this guide, we'll show you how to do that. Keep reading to learn how to publish Shorts on YouTube.

How Do You Publish YouTube Shorts? 2023

For the purposes of this guide, we'll mainly focus on how to record and publish a YouTube Shorts video from the YouTube mobile app.

However, you don't always need to record your Shorts videos using the YouTube app, and in the steps below we'll also cover how to upload an existing video as a Short.

Here's how to publish a Short on YouTube:

• Open the YouTube app on your mobile device and sign in to your account if you haven't already.

Note: If you're recording your video using the YouTube app, please keep in mind that according to Google, you currently can't do this on a tablet, and you'll need to do it on your phone.

• Select the Plus icon at the bottom of your screen.
• From the menu that appears, select Create a Short (if you're recording your video in the app).

If you're uploading an existing video: Instead, select Upload a video, then select the video you want to upload. Trim your video if needed, then select Next. Add extras like filters and text, then select Next. On the next screen, fill in the requested details, choose your settings, and then select Upload Short.

If you selected Create a Short, skip to the fourth step. If you haven't already, you'll need to allow access to your phone's camera and microphone.

• You should see a video recording screen. You can record for up to 15 seconds or 60 seconds. You can switch between these video length options by selecting the 15s or 60s icon in the top-right corner. When you're ready to record, select the large red circle Record button to start recording. Tap the red square Stop button to stop recording.

This screen also offers a few small editing options on the right side of the screen. To see all the editing options and each option's name, select the Down arrow icon on the right side of the screen. These options include things like trimming, retouching, adding a filter, and adding a green screen effect.

• Once you finish recording and editing, select the white Checkmark icon. You'll then be taken to another screen showing a preview of your video so far. This screen also lets you do things like add sound clips, text, and filters. When you're done with this screen, select Next.
• On the Add details screen, you need to add a title to your video and choose your video's visibility setting, select your audience (Is it made for kids or not?), and choose your setting for how you want to handle that.

Once you've completed all of this, select Upload Short to publish your Short on YouTube.
