AI Summary
  • Doomfist's Hand Cannon fires four shots of 11 pellets each, and it now deals less damage than before his tank rework.
  • Power Block cuts incoming frontal damage by 80 percent for 2 seconds and empowers Doomfist's next Rocket Punch.
  • Rocket Punch and Seismic Slam let Doomfist dive backline targets like Tracer, Genji, and Widowmaker, but leave him open from the side.

Overwatch 2 puts Doomfist into a tank role, and that change creates some challenges for the hero. His nerfed damage output makes it harder to control enemy threats despite Doomfist's increased health. That said, a new defensive ability and the Rocket Punch addiction that comes with it open the door to some useful combos. How about getting to know our hero a little better with this guide?

Doomfist Overview

Doomfist is in a strange spot thanks to Overwatch 2's changes. Becoming a tank gave him significantly more HP, but Blizzard brought his damage abilities down to a point where you may struggle to deal with most threats. His Hand Cannon deals a reasonable amount of damage, but struggles to finish the job with just four shots. His charged punch remains a strong ability if you can time it well, and it works even better now thanks to a new ability that speeds up the charge time when you use Doomfist's defensive skill.

Doomfist can still live as a DPS tank thanks to his combos, but until Blizzard rebalances him and improves his abilities, he isn't the best off-tank on the field.

Doomfist Abilities

  • Hand Cannon: Fires four shots containing 11 pellets each in a wide spread
  • Rocket Punch: Doomfist charges forward and punches enemies in front of him. Can be charged for more damage and distance
  • Power Block: Protects Doomfist by reducing incoming frontal damage by 80 percent. Lasts 2 seconds
  • Seismic Slam: Doomfist leaps forward and slams into the ground
  • Meteor Strike: Doomfist leaps into the sky and crashes down, dealing heavy damage in a wide area

Doomfist Traits

Doomfist's punch is now weaker. Doomfist's Hand Cannon is now weaker, too. Still, put the two abilities together and you've got a pretty strong combination. Doomfist's punch knocks his target backward and leaves them unable to move for a moment; during that window, you can follow up with a few Hand Cannon shots and — usually, assuming your aim is good — finish the job.

A charged punch naturally deals more damage, and you'll deal even more if you pin them against a wall. Since the charge takes a couple of seconds, the challenge is getting your aim right. The ability covers a fairly wide area, but it's best used at fairly close range, since you're more likely to connect with your target that way.

Doomfist's new Power Block ability reduces incoming frontal damage by 80 percent, which is excellent in narrow corridors and not so much anywhere else. Unlike Orisa's fortify ability, Doomfist's leaves him vulnerable to attacks from the side and behind, so don't try to charge into an objective area or open ground expecting good results with it. Use it against turrets and characters with very little mobility to flank you, like D.Va. The upside is that Power Block gives a big extra boost to Doomfist's punch ability, increasing its damage and speed while also adding a stun effect. If you're struggling to use Power Block defensively, switch to playing Doomfist as a DPS character and rely on the empowered punch instead.

It gives Doomfist the crowd control help he badly needs, letting him cause a bit of chaos in the enemy's ranks. Dive into the middle of the pack and use Rocket Punch to wipe out weaker enemies or isolate an enemy DPS hero, then finish them off with your Hand Cannon. You can also use Seismic Slam to get behind an enemy team and deal with snipers, healers, or fast, squishy DPS characters like Tracer or Genji. If you know Reaper or Ana are on the enemy team, watch how it's going. Ana can cancel your dive and put Doomfist to sleep, and closing in on Reaper at close range is always dangerous. Seismic Slam's arc is fairly easy to predict, which makes Doomfist an easy target for Widowmaker. You may want to activate Power Block before using it for extra protection.

  • Doomfist can jump and use Rocket Punch to hit airborne enemies, including Mercy and Pharah
  • If Winston is on the enemy team, avoid clashing with him or switch heroes. His close-range beam will make short work of Doomfist
  • Rocket Punch is also useful for traveling farther and faster. Use it to quickly close in on a target or to retreat if you need to.
  • Overwatch 2 only has one tank slot, so as tempting as it may be, don't try to play Doomfist as a regular DPS character
  • Since his auto-reload takes at least one or two seconds, use your Hand Cannon wisely
