TFT Set 5's New Shadow Items Mechanic
Shadow Items in TFT are variants of items you already know. These creepy new items let players minimize their builds and generally offer a major advantage paired with a downside to offset it.
For example, a Shadow Deathblade gives you bonus Critical Strike Damage, but every time you critically strike, you take true damage equal to 5% of your maximum Health.
To make a Shadow Item, you need to combine a Shadow component with another component. The key thing to watch out for is avoiding waste, since combining 2 Shadow items won't get you anything useful. A Shadow item that suits your champion, on the other hand, can be the key to first place.
How Do You Get Shadow Items in TFT Set 5?
- You can get Shadow Items in TFT in two ways: from the carousel, or from the new Armory. You cannot get them from PvE rounds.
- Shadow Items have a chance to appear on the carousel, either as components in the early stages of the game or as full items later on.
- You can also pick the item you want whenever it shows up in the Armory.
- On 2-2, 3-2, and 4-2, you choose from between two and four items offered to you. These items are generally split roughly 50-50 between Shadow and normal items.
TFT Set 5 Shadow Items and Their Effects
Infinity Edge
- Grants 75% Critical Strike Chance (including components). Every point of Critical Strike Chance above 100% becomes +1% Critical Strike Damage.
- The holder also gains 25% Critical Strike Damage.
- Every time the holder lands a critical strike, they take true damage equal to 5% of their maximum HP.
Cloak of Stillness
- At the start of combat, fires a beam that delays the first spell cast of the enemies and allies directly in front of and behind the holder, increasing their maximum Mana requirement by 50% until they use it up.
Thief's Gloves
- The holder equips 2 temporary items at the start of every planning phase. These items are always full Shadow items.
Trap Claw
- Blocks the first enemy spell to hit the holder, then teleports them to the caster, causing both units to start targeting each other. They deal 20% more damage to each other.
Quicksilver
- The holder is immune to crowd control, but has 25% less maximum Health.
Last Whisper
- When the holder lands a critical strike, the target's Armor and Magic Resist are reduced by 70% for 2 seconds. The holder's own Armor and Magic Resist are also permanently reduced by 70%.
Jeweled Gauntlet
- The holder's spells can critically strike. They gain 40% Critical Strike Damage and 25% Critical Strike Chance, but the holder loses 20% of their maximum Health whenever they cast.
Hand of Justice
- The holder starts combat with two buffs: +40 Attack Damage and +40 Ability Power

Spear of Shojin
- The holder's basic attacks restore an extra 14 Mana on hit. The holder deals 25% less damage.

Hextech Gunblade

Locket of the Iron Solari
- The holder and all allies within 1 hex in the same row take 20% less damage, but gain 5 less Mana per attack.
Morellonomicon

Ionic Spark

Guardian Angel
- Prevents the holder's first death, rendering them unable to act instead. After 2 seconds, they return with 100% Health and remove all negative effects. After this effect triggers, the holder's Attack Speed is reduced by 50%.
Zeke's Herald
At the start of combat, the holder steals up to 40% Attack Speed from nearby allies and grants it to themselves.
Bloodthirster
- Basic Attacks heal the holder for 40% of the damage dealt. The holder takes true damage equal to 25% of their maximum Health at the start of the fight. Whenever the holder heals up to 90% Health, they gain 40% Attack Speed for 3 seconds (does not stack).
