What Is Among Us?

Among Us is a game of teamwork and deception in space. While 4 to 10 players placed on the crew try to find out who the impostor among them is, the impostors' goal is to kill the astronauts and sabotage their work.

Although Among Us was first released in 2018 by the indie studio Innersloth, it had its big breakout recently, in 2020. The game's developers tweeted on September 4 that Among Us had 1.5 million concurrent players.

The game largely owes its breakout to Twitch streamers; big streamers playing the game with their friends seems to have influenced viewers.

How Do You Play Among Us?

Although playing Among Us looks hard at first, the game's basic gameplay is extremely simple. Basically there are two types of players: Crewmates and Impostors.

Crewmates spend most of the game completing a series of tasks while trying to find out who the Impostor is. As a member of the crew, your goal is either to complete all the tasks or to find out who the Impostor (or Impostors) is and then eject them from the game. Make sure you report the bodies you find, and try to check anyone who is suspicious about a body. If you find yourself killed by the Impostor, you can still complete tasks to help your fellow Crewmates win.

If you are one of the Impostors, you must pretend to complete various tasks around the map while killing Crewmates so that the crew does not suspect you are an Impostor. If you are playing with more than one Impostor, you can work together to defeat the crew much faster and secure your chance of winning the game. Impostors can access a Sabotage menu they can use to overheat the reactor, turn off the lights and mix up the base's oxygen levels. With your Sabotages you can confuse players and kill the crew. Impostors can use escape sections called Vents to move around the map faster. But remember that Vents can only be used by Impostors, so any Crewmate who sees you will know you are an Impostor and can call an Emergency Meeting to vote you out.
