How Will Kingdom Management Work in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord?

On this journey that you'll start alone, growing stronger and building strong relationships with the side you choose will take center stage in kingdom management. Medieval kingdoms were full of internal power struggles, and the most powerful people in the realm didn't always sit directly on the throne. With the kingdom decision system, you'll be able to decide which policies get applied in conquered territories. Clans will be able to choose who they'll stand behind and who they'll support, but the final decision will belong to the king. When deciding who to support, the clan AI will take the following factors into account:

  • Clans will evaluate whether incoming offers are beneficial or not.
  • A clan is more likely to support an offer if it's on good terms with the sponsor.
  • Clans are less likely to waste influence supporting a cause that's already lost.

Bannerlord will reflect a feudal kingdom system rather than a democracy. The final decision will always belong to the King. However, the more support a decision has, the higher the cost of overturning it will be.

How Will the Class System Work in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord?

Put simply, the class system is the system used for the preset equipment loadouts you can pick before spawning into the game. In Bannerlord, these classes are split into three different categories: infantry, ranged, and cavalry. With this system, you'll be able to switch the classes you pick to suit your own playstyle. You'll be able to pick a different class that's stronger against the opposing team's picks. This change will give you an advantage over your opponents. With these changes, the focus of gameplay will shift from who has better equipment to player skill and teamwork.

How Will Sieges Work in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord?

Castle sieges in Bannerlord are a dangerous situation for both attackers and defenders. For both sides, the biggest loss will be the soldiers lost. Attackers should focus on winning the fight with as few losses as possible on the defending side. Attackers have access to catapults, siege ladders, and battering rams. Defenders can apply various tactics either on top of the walls or inside the keep. Both sides will run into supply shortages in long battles, but the attacking side will need to either retreat without reinforcements or capture the castle. In the worst case, you'll be able to hold peace negotiations.

How Will the Trade Mechanic Work in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord?

As a merchant, you'll be able to trade between towns and keeps. You'll be able to track your trading activity and profits from the inventory screen. There's a fairly comprehensive production system, with everything in the game, from food to weapons, cattle, and horses, being produced in villages, towns, and keeps. Besides events like battles, village raids, and sieges, prices will also be affected by politics in peacetime. Just as real-life supply and demand affects prices, the same will hold true in the game.

How Will Multiplayer Mode Work?

There are two separate modes available: Captain and Skirmish.

Multiplayer mode

Captain: Playing this mode, you'll be able to choose one of infantry, archer, or cavalry troops. You'll be given soldiers based on the troop type you choose. Troops will consist of 8 to 20 soldiers. Infantry troops have the most soldiers, followed by archers, and cavalry has the fewest. Your team will consist of six people in total. Everyone will command a troop, and you'll try to defeat the opposing team through teamwork. If your assigned primary character dies, you'll be able to switch to one of the surviving characters in your troop. Once everyone in your troop is dead, you'll be able to spectate your teammates.

Skirmish: You'll pick a character and start the match with that character. There are two or three different teams in the game. Teams generally have an equal number of players. Just like in Captain mode, you'll be able to pick infantry, archer, or cavalry. Here you won't have a troop, just yourself. You'll have a limited number of respawns. Teams will try to capture designated flag points. There will be three capture points in total. Each flag point will have a flag that can be captured and controlled by one team. Over time, the team holding fewer flags will start to steadily lose morale, and once it's fully drained, that team will lose.

How Will the Crime and Punishment System Work?

Just like in real life, crimes committed in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord won't go unpunished. As long as you don't put yourself above the law, of course. A system called crime rating will track players' crimes.

  • The system's purpose is to keep players in check. This system will offer a deeper experience that lets players take a different path throughout their adventures.
  • It will be possible to get involved in many crimes across Calradia, from minor offenses like goods smuggling to more serious ones like raiding caravans.
  • The system will assign a numerical value to committed crimes based on the severity of the act. Crimes will be classified as minor, moderate, or severe.
