Apex Legends' new Welcome Challenges teach new players the game's core mechanics while rewarding XP and the Apex 101 badge.
- Respawn added Welcome Challenges to Apex Legends alongside the Spellbound Collection Event update.
- There are 10 Welcome Challenges, each designed to teach players a different core game mechanic.
- Completing all 10 challenges rewards the Apex 101 banner badge along with XP toward the battle pass.
Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment introduced its latest cosmic-themed cosmetic set with Tuesday's launch of the Spellbound Collection Event, but the update accompanying those cosmetics is a real game changer. Players can now host their own custom matches and tournaments, but the new update also gives them access to another new feature: Welcome Challenges. While they're mostly meant to help new players who aren't familiar with Apex, completing the Welcome Challenges is a great way to earn some extra XP before next month's Eclipse battle pass ends. How do you complete the Apex Legends Welcome Challenges? What are the difficulty tiers? What are the rewards? Let's take a look.

How to Complete the Apex Legends Welcome Challenges
Log into Apex as you normally would. Once you're in the lobby, select "Seasonal" from the tabs at the top of the page. From there, a submenu will appear beneath the tabs. The last tab, at the far right of the submenu, should read "Challenges." Select it and you'll find yourself in the challenge hub. Here you can find a list of daily challenges, seasonal battle pass challenges, limited-time event challenges, and now, Welcome Challenges as well.
At the top of the vertical challenge list on the right side of the screen is a button that reads "Welcome to Apex." Select it to be taken to the Welcome Challenge page, where you can track your progress on each individual challenge.
What Are the Apex Legends Welcome Challenges Difficulty Tiers?
There are a total of 10 Welcome Challenges players need to complete, each of which is meant to teach players a different game element and introduce them to all the tools at their disposal. The challenges themselves (and the lessons they're meant to convey) are listed below:
Restore 200 health
This challenge is as simple as it gets, but it can sometimes be easy to forget you need to heal, especially if you're only missing a small amount of health. But that small amount should always be topped off as quickly as possible, since sometimes that half-dozen HP can mean the difference between a life and a death box.
Slide three times
When it comes to Apex, movement is everything. The ability to quickly reposition yourself or escape an enemy is a vital skill, and when abilities fail you — especially going downhill — sliding is your best option. If characters like Fade (and his extremely powerful passive ability, Slipstream) impact the meta going forward, sliding could become an even more important part of Apex in the future.
Deal damage with ordnance
The usefulness of Apex's throwable items can't be overstated, so it's best to get acquainted with them early, especially if you're new to the game. Frag Grenades are perfect for flushing enemies out of a building or other tight spaces. Arc Stars, on the other hand, are a great tool for precision strikes — they deal instant damage and stick if they land directly on an enemy, then deal even more damage when they explode a moment later. Thermite Grenades also deal instant damage, but that damage keeps building up for a short time depending on how long you spend in contact with the scorching flames. If you're having trouble landing direct hits with ordnance, hit up the Firing Range.
Replace your armor with a higher-level EVO Shield in battle royale
This is second nature for most players, but it's still worth keeping in mind: not all EVO Shields are created equal, even if they're the same color. If you're wearing a blue shield but haven't dealt any damage, you'll want to swap your armor if you come across a death box with a damaged EVO Shield that's closer to leveling up than your own. Keep an eye on your teammates too, especially if you're not dealing damage and they are. If they find a better shield and leave their old one on the ground, pick it up and equip it (as long as it's closer to upgrading than your current shield).
Finally, make sure you take advantage of the Replicators scattered around every map. If you've opened enough Supply Bins and Crafting Material barrels, you can use a Replicator multiple times to upgrade your body shield's level, especially if you've already dealt some damage while wearing it. Whenever you can safely use a Replicator without drawing attention, make sure to upgrade your armor (and keep an eye out for more Crafting Materials, which appear as teal circles on the minimap).
Finish in the top five
Depending on whether you're playing with a random or a pre-made squad, your mileage may vary. It's much easier to pull this off when you have a pre-made group of friends, but you'll eventually get there one way or another — it might just take more time with random teammates. If you're absolutely desperate to reach the top five right away, queuing solo is the best method. Uncheck the "fill teammates" box (found above the button you press to ready up) and get ready. This drops you into a game by yourself, and if you stay out of sight, reaching the top five is quite easy. But if your goal is to win the match or improve your K/D ratio, playing in a squad with some teammates is the best course of action.
Break down three doors with a melee attack
Sometimes you'll find yourself in combat while unarmed. If the enemy isn't unarmed either, running away is usually a better idea than throwing punches. As for doors, remember that it only takes two melee hits to break them down (except for doors reinforced by Catalyst). If a downed enemy is blocking a door, punch it and finish the job.
Use a Phoenix Kit
As useful as they are, Phoenix Kits can be a liability since they take longer to use than the game's other healing items. They're best used right after taking down enemies in a fight, or when you're injured but have managed to escape an enemy's line of sight and have some downtime. Remember that using a Phoenix Kit takes 10 seconds (which feels like 10 minutes when you're in the middle of a fight with enemies lurking nearby), so plan accordingly if you want to complete this challenge smoothly. Even though it's the strongest healing item in the game, trying to use a Phoenix Kit can get you killed if you're not careful.
Grab an item from a Care Package
This is another easy one, but it can still get you killed. Unopened Care Packages emit a blinding beam of light that can be seen from far away. But once someone opens the Care Package, the beam of light disappears, announcing everyone nearby to that player's location. On top of that, players will often camp near unopened Care Packages, staying untouched in order to trap and ambush unsuspecting teams.
If possible, try to scout your immediate surroundings for enemies before opening a Care Package. The best thing you can do for this challenge is to play as a legend who can scan the area for enemies or warn you of their presence (Bloodhound, Crypto, Seer, Wraith).
What Are the Apex Legends Welcome Challenges Rewards?
Players receive XP for every Welcome Challenge they complete, which counts toward both their battle passes and their individual account level. But players who complete all 10 Welcome Challenges will receive a new item to decorate their character banners with: the Apex 101 badge. It might not be the most exciting reward in the world, but it definitely adds a nice touch to your banner.
The real reward is the XP boost for long-time players who can breeze through all 10 challenges at once, and the ability to steer new players in the right direction and make sure they're fully aware of all the in-game abilities. While adding to the still-unreleased tutorial trailer would definitely give new players a better introduction to the game, Apex's new Welcome Challenges are a step in the right direction. Best of all, they're useful for both veteran players and clueless FNGs alike. Two birds, one stone.
