About the Dynasty Warriors Series
The first Dynasty Warriors (Sangokumusō) was released in 1997 for PlayStation as a traditional one-on-one fighting game. Its style was reminiscent of Virtua Fighter and Soul Blade.
The next game was released in Japan under the name Shin Sangokumusou. This game was released in other countries as Dynasty Warriors 2, but this caused errors in the titles. From this game on, players could choose a single character and play a series of levels representing specific battles of the Three Kingdoms period. The goal was to unify China under a common ruler by defeating all the other rival kingdoms at the end of the game.
