Melinoë
- Melinoë is Zagreus's sibling and Hades' daughter in Hades 2. She's the protagonist of the game, and while her past in the ancient world is a bit murky, an orphaned hymn from roughly 2,000 years ago gives us a little insight into her.
Hades
- Even though Hades is the name of the underworld, we also know that Hades is the God of the Underworld and, supposedly, Melinoë's father. While all the relationships in Greek mythology are fairly complicated, Hades' might be the most complicated of all when it comes to his ties to most of the other Hades 2 gods and characters.
Chronos
- Chronos is the villain of the Hades 2 gods, seen bound in chains at the end of the trailer, and acts as the driving force of the narrative as the one referred to as "time itself."
Aphrodite
- Aphrodite's mythology is perhaps one of the most well-known. The goddess of love and fertility is said to have been born from an obscene substance that came from Uranus's severed genitals. In fact, it's been suggested that Uranus's son Cronus threw his genitals into the sea, which is also why Aphrodite is referred to as a sea goddess.
Apollo
- In Hades 2, Apollo is the God of Light, though according to mythology he's actually the god of many things. A god who appears many times throughout ancient Greek culture, most often depicted with a lyre, a quiver, a bow, and a raven.
Artemis
- While Artemis is also known in some Greek mythology as the goddess of chastity and childbirth, Supermassive chose to more fittingly use her better-known status as the Goddess of the Hunt for Hades 2.
Charon
- Charon, the Stygian Ferryman, is, in other words, the boatman who carries the dead to the underworld. According to Greek legend, payment was required for passage, and those who couldn't pay weren't allowed to cross, instead being left to wander the shores forever.
Chaos
- Chaos, a character confirmed to be non-binary in the Hades series, has changed their appearance from the original game for Hades 2. They now appear with long gray hair cut off in pink and purple at the bottom, and flowing robes.
Demeter
- Demeter is known as the Goddess of the Harvest, or the Goddess of the Seasons, and is referred to as the latter in Hades 2. That said, given her name, the theme woven through Hades 2 seems to lean more toward Winter and its effect on crops.
Eris
- Eris is the personification of strife. She resists any kind of order, whether it comes from nature or is imposed by gods and goddesses. Even so, Melinoë repeatedly finds herself caught up with Eris throughout Hades 2.
Hecate
- If we treat Hecate as an entity separate from Melinoë, as Supergiant has her appear in Hades 2 as a woman clad entirely in black robes, she is the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the moon, and the night.
Hera
- Hera, Zeus's wife, is the queen of Olympus and is tasked with keeping some order there. You may cross paths with her on your journey to Tartarus or the surface, and she'll grant you powerful Boons.
Heracles
- Similar to Artemis and Nemesis, Heracles appears as an NPC in various encounters. To earn greater rewards, he'll pose challenges like defeating more enemies than he defeated within a set amount of time.
Hephaestus
- The God of the Forge, Hephaestus, is known for his craftsmanship and metalworking, and he's fittingly associated with those in Hades 2 as well, providing support for Melinoë's defenses and weapons.
Hestia
- The Goddess of the Flame, Hestia, naturally offers Melinoë fire-themed Boons. She seems to have a great personality, referring to Melinoë as "hot stuff" and making other fire-related wordplay in her dialogue.
Hypnos
- Hypnos is a god we can already form a bond with. Also known as Sleep Incarnate, Hypnos is, unsurprisingly, found deep asleep in Hades 2.
Icarus
- Icarus is a free spirit in Hades 2. You'll meet him on your journeys to the surface.
Moros
- The Greek god Moros, or "Doom Incarnate," appears to Melinoë after a string of deaths, tying into his mythology around doom, death, and his own immortality. Moros is also the son of Nyx, who was something of an adoptive mother to Zagreus in the original Hades.
Nemesis
- Nemesis is described as the Incarnation of Retribution in Hades 2. The goddess of revenge and retribution, Nemesis is essentially old-fashioned, well-deserved punishment.
Poseidon
- The God of the Sea, Poseidon, is the last sibling we know Zeus has in Hades 2, alongside Hades, Demeter, and Hestia. Poseidon is believed to have become the God of the Sea when he and his siblings overthrew their father Cronus, with the sea, sky, and underworld divided among Cronus's three sons, Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades.
Selene
- The Goddess of the Moon, Selene, is a beautiful woman who appears to Melinoë riding a silver-maned horse with striking white wings. This also holds true to Greek mythology, where Selene travels either sidesaddle on her horse or in a chariot pulled by two horses, trailing the moon behind her, just as she does in Hades 2.
Zeus
- Zeus is the thread that ties together all the Hades 2 gods. Father to many, brother to some, and king to all, Zeus is, as we mentioned above, technically Melinoë's real father according to Greek legend.
The other Hades 2 characters are as follows:
- Arachne
- Cerberus
- Dora
- Hypnos
- Odysseus
- Polyphemus
- Schelemeus
- Scylla
- Frinos
- Hecuba and Gal
