Microsoft Buys Smash.gg!

Smash.gg, one of the biggest websites that host and run live gaming tournaments, was officially acquired by the technology giant Microsoft on December 3, 2020.

This acquisition looks like a simple investment by Microsoft in the popular platform, and it appears to have been made to host events and tournaments for its own games in the future.

Smash.gg will continue as a self-service esports platform that lets tournament organizers manage their events easily, as it does now. However, a big plus should not be forgotten. The resources behind the platform will now rise with the opportunities Microsoft offers and prepare it for new projects.

Smash.gg said, "When we started in 2015, our goal was to build an active esports platform around the games people love to play." It added: "Today, we are excited to take the next step in this journey by joining Microsoft to help strengthen our existing relationships and explore new opportunities."

What Is Smash.gg?

Founded in 2015, Smash.gg is a system that lets players of every kind of game create organizations and tournaments. When Smash.gg launched in 2015, its main purpose was to create tournaments for Super Smash Bros. But as a result of requests from the community, it first expanded its horizons to fighting games and then to many other games such as Fornite and Rocket League. Able to host every kind of online tournament and organization today, Smash.gg looks set to add many more games with the support it will get from Microsoft.
