When Will Project 007 Release?

James Bond has long been one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture in the world of espionage. But seeing this character in video games hasn't always been possible. Following the 2012 release of 007 Legends, James Bond games went quiet. Fortunately, IO Interactive, the studio behind the legendary Hitman series, is working on a new James Bond game that will break that silence. Known under the codename Project 007, this game aims to bring a brand-new perspective to the world of Bond. Though still in its early stages, some key details about the project have emerged.

When Will Project 007 Release?

As of now, IO Interactive hasn't announced a firm release date for Project 007. This is mainly because the game is still in the early stages of development. The studio is still hiring new staff for this major project, and development is ongoing.

IO Interactive aims to adapt the Bond IP into an experience that's impressive and innovative for players. Projects of this scale inevitably require time. In particular, it will take time for developers to adapt to next-generation hardware and integrate dynamics unique to the Bond universe into the game world.

The studio has set fairly ambitious goals for this project. It's known that IO Interactive plans to grow the team currently working on the project from 200 people to over 400. This shows just how ambitious and large-scale the game is. The best guess for fans is that the game will release in 2025 or 2026. IO Interactive's official website also offers an option to receive updates on the game's development.

Additionally, while a full trailer for the game hasn't been released yet, a teaser trailer was shared in November 2020. This short video confirmed the game was in development but didn't offer much detail about it.

Are Project 007's Platforms Known? Is It Coming to Steam?

One of the most frequently asked questions about Project 007 is which platforms it will be playable on. Unfortunately, IO Interactive hasn't made an official statement on this yet. However, there is some speculation and guesswork. There's a strong expectation that Project 007 will come to next-generation consoles and PC. In particular, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC are seen as the most likely targets for a big-budget game like this.

IO Interactive's past work on the Hitman series achieved major success on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Because of this, Project 007 is likely to appear on these platforms as well. It's also thought that the game will be specifically optimized for next-generation consoles, aiming to get full performance out of them.

What's the Story and What Features Does It Have?

This new Bond game will take a different direction from other James Bond games. IO Interactive has stated that Project 007 will have a "completely original story." This means the game will be independent of the Bond films or stories we already know. In other words, we won't be reliving the Bond character and events we've seen in the films; instead, we'll experience a brand-new Bond story. This original story will show players how Bond became a legendary agent. In other words, we'll be able to witness Bond's process of joining MI6 and experience his adventures around the world.

Additionally, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak recently said they're planning a full trilogy around the game.
