This game pulls you into an unforgettable atmosphere and a terrifyingly realistic setting with a need to survive. Armed with a flashlight whose battery keeps dying, we start exploring a calm, average-looking house as a pizza delivery person in a leafy neighborhood. Playable in VR, this game won't just scare you, it'll also make sure you have a good time.

Until Dawn

My favorite game on this list, Until Dawn, is a game that manages to blend slasher film tropes with a video game format. Exclusive to the PS4, this game follows a group of young people traveling to a remote cabin in the mountains, surprisingly stalked one by one by a terrifying entity intent on hunting them down. The most interesting part of the game is that it's up to you to make decisions for the characters, and you can enjoy the game even more by splitting the characters up with your friends. Every decision you make has a big impact on the game; make the wrong call, and you might see your favorite character die. Until Dawn is a great horror game, but it's also worth adding that it's a lot of fun too.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7 blends the style of both modern horror movies and modern games while managing to keep the Resident Evil feel, giving a fresh breath of air to an increasingly stale series.

Shifting the perspective from third person to first person makes the fear feel closer and more immediate, and adding a genuinely terrifying VR experience gave the game a new edge.

With a great story and enjoyable gameplay, Resident Evil 7 managed to win over praise from its fans.

Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation puts players in the role of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter. The game takes place 15 years after the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 film.

Adopting a first-person perspective and pitting you against a Xenomorph that hunts you through the dark on a vast space station, Alien: Isolation makes players feel like they're watching a movie.

An enjoyable adventure against the Xenomorph's incredibly cleverly designed AI awaits us. It would be fair to call Alien: Isolation a true modern horror classic.
