How Do You Sign Up for the Steam Family Beta?

When you join a Steam family, you automatically gain access to all your family members' shareable games, and they get access to the shareable games in your library too. The next time you log in to Steam, this new "family library" will appear as a sub-section of your games list in the left column. You keep ownership of your existing games, and any new game you buy will appear in your collection.

While playing a game from your family library, you can create your own save files, earn your own Steam achievements, access workshop files, and more.

Family sharing lets you play games in other family members' libraries even while they're playing a different game online.

To join the beta:

• While Steam is running, click Steam in the top left, then select the Settings menu.
• Select Interface, then select the dropdown menu in the Client Beta Participation section.
• Select "Steam Family Beta" from the dropdown list and click OK. At this point you'll be asked to restart Steam.
• Once you've joined, go to your account details from the store page and click the Family Management section.

Because of this, membership requirements or member counts for the Steam Family may change over time based on usage, in order to keep expectations aligned with how the feature is actually used.

Can I Leave a Steam Family?

Steam Families are designed to cover your immediate family. Since the people living in your household can change due to major life events, you may need to join a new Steam family one day. Adults can leave whenever they want, but they'll need to wait 1 year from the date they joined the previous family before creating or joining a new one. Children in a Steam family cannot leave on their own and must be removed by an adult in the family or by Steam Support. Since a family member leaving is a rare occurrence, each slot in a Steam family has a one-year waiting period before a new member can be added to that slot.

Can I Be Removed from a Steam Family?

Yes, adult family members can remove any family member from the Steam family.
