Mixed Squads With Icons You Can Build in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team

FUT, the mode FIFA 21 players spend the most time in and enjoy playing the most, means much more than just a football match through the objectives you complete and the squads you build.

When you're building these squads, your team chemistry and playstyle template directly affect your players' in-match performance and attributes. When putting together the squads I have laid out for you, I made sure to build team chemistry to the highest level with players who complement each other. Depending on your budget, you can either try out the squads I have built yourself or bring some of these players onto your own team. In the end, what matters is that you're playing with players you're comfortable with and enjoy, and of course, the 3 points. Without further ado, let's get into the mixed squads I have put together with players from different leagues, including icon players;

Mixed Squads and Icons Made From Players I have Added From Different Leagues

FUT 21: 4-3-3 (Mixed)

This squad, which I put together for players who don't like building a team from a single league or nationality, is made up of 6 different clubs, 4 different leagues, and 5 different nationalities. To pull this off, it's important to add icon players at the points where your team doesn't otherwise connect. The fact that icon players can build chemistry links with every player and have maximum compatibility with players of their own nationality is what makes them indispensable for your mixed squads. As for the logic behind this team, in midfield I added R. Sanches next to two players with elite ball quality and gave him a defensive playstyle instruction, so the other two midfielders could push forward more freely. Up front, instead of running the channels wide, I set the forwards to play close to each other, building around wall passes and long-range shots to find goals.

FUT 21: 4-4-1-1

If you want to bring icons onto your team while keeping the cost low, I'd recommend going for the base icon cards. It's possible to get two icons and a compact team for just 700,000 in-game coins. To do this, you can also earn free players for your team by completing the objectives the game gives you. On this team, Bellerin and Deulofeu are two cards earned from objectives, and they play really well. On formations like this, set the team up to be compact and control the ball, then patiently look for goals. I'll go into more detail on the other template with the squad I actually play.

FUT 21: 4-4-1-1 (My Squad)

The last squad I'm sharing is the one I currently play with. I have mentioned this tactical setup often in the squads I have built with Premier League players. It's the squad I'm most comfortable with and have had the most success with. On this team, I let Fernandes roam freely so he can find the ball in any area. I give Bolasie a hunter chemistry style along with "get in behind - stay wide" instructions, so I can play through balls from the flanks and get into position. On Salah I use the "come short" instruction, and I get a lot of use out of short passes with him and his close-control dribbling in tight spaces. On Rashford I use the "get in behind" instruction and try to send him long balls whenever possible.

Pogba and Keita bring dynamism and intelligence to the midfield, which makes things a lot easier for me. When building your centre-back pairing, if it's a Premier League team, add one of the game's best defenders like Van Dijk or Gomez, and if it's LaLiga, bring in Varane. Bellerin is very effective on defense thanks to his pace, while Mendy is effective thanks to his physicality. Set your team instructions to keep possession and drop your defensive width down a notch. In attack, if you like pressing, you can choose press after possession loss, or start balanced and apply instant pressure with quick instructions during the match. When I'm behind or chasing a goal, I switch the tactic to 4-2-4 and bring on quick wingers and forwards in place of tired substitutes (I use the Coman TOTGS card and the Deulofeu objective card), which throws the tired defense off balance and lets me find a goal fairly comfortably. After scoring, I switch back to the old template so you don't end up exposed at the back.

Lastly, the squad and players you see here fully reflect my own point of view. Everyone has different players and tactical setups they enjoy and play better with. What matters is finding that setup and then developing it.
