God of War Ragnarök will see Kratos and Atreus set out once again to fight a new set of terrifying enemies. Things changed for eager players at the PlayStation Showcase in September 2021. When Is God of War Ragnarök Coming Out?

Which Platforms Is God of War Ragnarök Available On?

As you might guess, Ragnarök will remain a PlayStation exclusive and will therefore only be available on PlayStation 4 and 5. That said, with Sony finally choosing to release the 2018 game on PC, and Sony offering PC owners more and more exclusives, we may see the next chapter of this old-school story drop on PC in the future.

As we can see from the PlayStation Showcase trailer below, Atreus has also grown since we last saw him and looks like a much tougher fighter. As they set out to rescue the god Tyr, who put his hand in Fenrir's mouth, it looks like they will meet some terrifying enemies along the way.

What Are the God of War Ragnarök Story Details?

According to the official God of War Ragnarök website, Fimbulwinter is already "underway" when Ragnarök begins. In addition, the story will see Kratos and Atreus travel through the Nine Realms of Norse mythology "seeking answers as the forces of Asgard prepare for a war prophesied to end the world." As for Atreus' part in this quest, the website said he is seeking knowledge to help him better understand the "Loki prophecy" seen at the end of God of War 2018, which will "determine his role in Ragnarök." As for Kratos, the grumpy warrior will have to decide whether to stay tied to his terrible past and his "fear of repeating his mistakes" or break the chains to be "the father Atreus needs." While God of War 2018 saw Kratos grow closer to Atreus through their adventures, Ragnarök looks set to test the bond the two have built over time.

The website's blurb ends by saying the Ragnarök threat is drawing ever closer and that father and son will have to "choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms." It appears part of the hero's mission will be to rescue the Norse god of war, Tyr. It will be interesting to see how the developers handle this from a lore perspective. After all, Kratos became Ares' counterpart after killing him in the original God of War game.

What Are the God of War Ragnarök Gameplay Details?

Footage very similar to what God of War 2018 revealed began with a short but epic game trailer that confirmed several things. Both Kratos and his son Atreus will return in a game that looks similar to the 2018 outing, even though both characters use various new skills, powers and weapons. Throughout Ragnarök, players can expect to visit all nine realms, unlike the six realms in the previous title. Midgard, Alfheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, Helheim and Jotunheim will return in some capacity, with Vanaheim, Svartalfheim and Asgard now joining the mix. Finally, the website confirms that the Leviathan Axe, Guardian Shield and Blades of Chaos are returning from God of War 2018. Both Kratos and Atreus look set to receive new abilities to use in Ragnarök, but it is not yet clear whether these will be limited to combat. In terms of raw performance, according to early intel, God of War Ragnarök is expected to offer two graphics options on PS5 at launch. Players are reported to have the option to "switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second or a dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60 fps."

How Do You Pre-Order God of War: Ragnarök and Its Collector's Edition?

The studio held an official unboxing event for three separate editions of God of War Ragnarök, featuring Thor actor Ryan Hurst and Santa Monica Studio Art Director Rafael Grassetti.

The Launch Edition is the base edition of God of War Ragnarök, but it comes with codes for players to download the Kratos Risen Snow Armor and Atreus Risen Snow Tunic items. Those who buy the PS4 version can upgrade to the PS5 version for 10 US dollars.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the full game as well as a set of in-game items that would normally be unlocked by playing through the game's story.

The next edition is the Collector's Edition, which includes more than the others. It includes all the contents of the Digital Deluxe Edition. It also includes a beautifully ornate container themed around the Shrine of the Keeper of Knowledge.

The Collector's Edition will include a voucher code to download the game on PS4 and PS5, a steel book display case, two 2-inch Vanir Twins carvings, a set of Dwarven Dice and a 16-inch Mjölnir replica.

Finally, there is the Jötnar Edition, which includes everything listed above plus the following:

• 7-inch Vinyl Record with music by Bear McCreary
• Falcon, Bear and Wolf Pin Set – Representing Faye, Kratos and Atreus respectively, this pin set symbolizes our heroes' family.
• Legendary Draupnir Ring
• Yggdrasil Cloth Map – This cloth map shows each of the Nine Realms within the branches and roots of Yggdrasil.

Remember, this edition and the Collector's Edition do not include a physical copy of the game, only a code to download it in either edition.

As of July 2022, there is no pre-order available for Türkiye for God of War Ragnarök. However, other countries have started pre-ordering through PlayStation. Pre-orders will start in Türkiye soon.
