GTA 6 Release Date: Will It Have a Story Mode?

Is GTA 6 in Development?

While Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed this much-anticipated question, everyone believes work has begun. It's been more than seven years since GTA 5 launched as one of the most ambitious games of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. That's genuinely a very long time! Even though enhanced next-gen versions of GTA 5 are being made and GTA Online keeps evolving, an entirely new Grand Theft Auto game has become inevitable.

The problem is that Rockstar Games is extremely quiet on the matter. Now that 2021 has arrived, we lose sleep and grow impatient imagining the new game on PS5 and Xbox Series X. But according to the rumors we've heard, it's still too early even for the game to be in development. That tells us a possible release date isn't near, and we wake up from the dream(!)

Clues We've Gathered About the GTA 6 Release Date!

Since there's no official confirmation and Rockstar hasn't made any statement on the matter, it's nearly impossible for analysts to predict when GTA 6 will release. Industry analyst Michael Pachter estimates the game's release date could be sometime toward the end of 2022. But the strongest clue about the GTA 6 release date comes from data pulled from publisher Take-Two Interactive's marketing budget. In a filing by Take-Two reported by VentureBeat (which contains financial plans for the next five years), it was revealed that the company plans to spend $89 million on marketing between April 2023 and March 2024. It's highly likely this massive increase is tied to GTA 6's release date!

Like us, industry analyst Jeff Cohen also suggested that GTA 6's launch lies behind this spike, adding that looking at previous marketing budgets, you can predict the release of other major titles from Take-Two Interactive, including Red Dead Redemption 2.

If these predictions turn out to be correct, we can expect GTA 6 to launch between April 2023 and March 2024.

When Will the GTA 6 Trailer Release?

The most obvious thing we know about Rockstar Games is that they love secrecy. Unless someone leaks something from the inside or something goes very wrong, it doesn't look like we'll be seeing a GTA 6 trailer anytime soon.

Will GTA 6 Have a Story Mode?

The single-player content and story mode aren't going anywhere!!!

Given the massive success of GTA Online, some GTA fans may have thought the series would continue purely as an online, multiplayer mode, with the single-player experience potentially left behind. However, Tarek Hamad and Scott Butchard from Rockstar clarified this in an interview with GQ. When asked whether Rockstar would keep telling single-player stories while the Online mode continues, Hamad answered, "Absolutely," and Butchard added that they could make it part of the online experience as well.

Which Platforms Will GTA 6 Be On?

As we said earlier in this article, no firm information has reached us, but given that the game is thought to be at least 2 years away, it seems very likely it will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Could new consoles arrive or technology leap forward by then and give us a very different experience? Only time will tell.
