The countdown has begun for Hogwarts Legacy, the game Harry Potter fans have been eagerly awaiting. With the gameplay trailer released, fans are already holding their breath for the game. It offers us an open world and lets us explore the school's forbidden rooms as well as various locations like Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest. Curious what else awaits us in the game? How Do You Play Hogwarts Legacy?

Create a Character

Welcome to Hogwarts! There's one important thing you need to do before heading into the huge, spell-adorned Great Hall and meeting the Sorting Hat: creating your own character. This had always been assumed until now, but in Hogwarts Legacy you'll actually need to create a character to begin your journey at the school of witchcraft and wizardry. Before you settle into your house, you'll be able to customize everything from height to hair and facial features. We don't know yet how much this will affect you in-game, but it's a great first step for an RPG.

Choose Your House

Once you've created your character just the way you want, it's time to head to the Great Hall. Before you sit down in front of the Sorting Hat, don't forget to take in every detail of the hall, the spells used for lighting, and the other characters. Oh, and enjoy the delicious food while you're at it! There may be ghosts wandering around, but don't be scared — they're our friends. Now it's time to sit in front of the Sorting Hat, which everyone fears and which is a bit cheeky. At this point we don't know whether you choose your own house or whether the Sorting Hat chooses for you. But we hope you'll be as fortunate as Harry Potter and end up in the house you want.

A Living Hogwarts

After choosing your house, you'll need to head to the rooms tied to it. Don't forget to look around on your way to your room, because you'll literally be inside a living Hogwarts. It was clear Hogwarts Legacy would somehow bring the famous castle to life, but the halls will feel very alive throughout the game. You won't just see familiar ghosts and portraits — there will also be plenty of secrets and passages hidden throughout the school for you to reveal with magic. Everything from common rooms to courtyards full of students will be explorable.

Class Time

Of course, if you want to become a successful wizard, you'll need to learn how spells work and how to use them. As you develop your character, you'll learn advanced tricks and more spells to combine in combat. There will be "dozens" of spells like Incendio and Descendo, and you'll be able to use all of them to change up your gameplay.

You'll Be Flying High

Hogwarts Legacy is going to send you soaring! We're still eager to see whether some form of Quidditch will be included in the game, but you'll be able to learn broom flight and master it. Either way, learning how to fly a broom will be an absolute blast.

Open World

We already knew Hogwarts Legacy would take players to various locations like Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest, but you'll also be able to travel from place to place on foot or by broom. An open-world experience awaits you, taking you to places never before seen around the school. The game will be full of surrounding areas, vendors, puzzles, NPCs with their own missions, and even smaller villages full of enemy camps, just like a true open-world setting.

In the end, plenty awaits you in the game. Master spells by completing quests, defeat your enemies, and strive to become the best wizard. But while you're at it, don't forget to explore your surroundings and lose yourself in the magical world!
