Hogwarts Legacy fills its world with various puzzles that reveal the mysterious side of Hogwarts Castle and the areas around it. Although completing each recurring puzzle is not complicated, if you're not sure which spell to use, it's worth checking out this guide we wrote for you. You will also unlock some puzzles as you progress. So what are the Hogwarts Legacy puzzles and their solutions?
Hogwarts Legacy Puzzle Types and Solutions
Moth Mirrors
Moth Mirrors are empty metallic mirrors with a series of moth ornaments around the edges. To complete these puzzles, you must cast Lumos on the mirror. This will reveal a different location in the mirror, usually somewhere nearby. You must go to the area shown in the picture, where you will find a moth. If Lumos is still active, the moth will follow you. Take the moth back to the mirror and cancel Lumos so the moth returns to the mirror, completing the puzzle.
Symbol Doors
Symbol Doors have a series of pictures around the door frame and two math puzzles on the door itself, which appear when you interact with the door. To unlock the door, you must find two question marks spinning nearby and turn them into the right animals to solve the math questions and unlock the door.
Statue holding a ball
The statue holding a ball is one of the simpler puzzles found around Hogwarts Castle. Just cast Leviosa on it to get a Field Guide page, and the statue will then disappear.
Merlin Trials
Merlin Trials are a special kind of riddle marked by a series of stones spinning on the ground. You must use Mallowsweet Leaves to start each puzzle. Once activated, you look for a series of stone pillars or structures nearby. What you need to do to the pillars and how many there are varies from puzzle to puzzle. The first one you encounter (through the story quest) requires you to use Incendio on three pillars. Completing multiple Merlin Trials will increase the amount of gear you can carry, which is quite limited early in the game.
Unlit Pyre
Around the castle, you can find unlit, standing bonfires. They are similar to the other standing pools found around the castle. If you cast Incendio on them, they light up and reward you with a Field Guide page. They also occasionally appear on walls out of Incendio's range. For these, you will need Confringo, which will light the pyre and reveal the Field Guide page, which you will need Accio to collect.
Eyeball Chest
Another quick puzzle at Hogwarts, Eyeball Chests require you to use stealth, specifically Disillusionment, to approach and open the chest.
Locks
There are tons of ordinary locks in and around Hogwarts. To open the most basic locks, you need to have unlocked the Alohomora spell. With this spell, you enter a lock-picking minigame in which you must align a red spark with a red arrow before repeating with a green spark and a green arrow.
Demiguise Statue
These small statues of a bird-like creature holding a moon are not exactly a puzzle, but you have probably noticed a few of them and been confused about what they are, since you can clearly interact with them. They can be collected, but only at night and only after starting the "The Caretaker's Lunar Lament" quest, at which point you can start collecting them. If you come across one during the day, open the map and choose to advance time to night so you can collect it without leaving or waiting for night to fall naturally. After collecting enough, you can upgrade Alohomora to pick higher-level locks.
