How to Trade in Manor Lords

Trade is a pretty important part of Manor Lords, since it's one of the only ways to get goods and resources for vital upgrades in your settlement without leaving your starting region. You can import instead of conquering neighboring lands. You might need to do this because a certain product has low fertility in your region, or because you don't have enough families to produce everything you need in your settlement. So how do you trade in Manor Lords? How does the system work?

How to Trade in Manor Lords

To start trading in Manor Lords, you first need to build a Trading Post, which costs four planks. Once you've assigned a family to work at the Trading Post, you can easily start trading by clicking the building and going to the Trade tab. Here you'll see every product currently available to import and export.

To start trading, click the dropdown menu that says "No Trade"; you'll see three options:

  • Import: you'll only buy this product
  • Export: you'll only sell this product
  • Full Trade: you'll both buy and sell this product

On the other side of the product list, you can see how much of that resource you currently have for trading purposes.

For example, if you want to import barley because yield is low in your region and you can't grow it effectively, you'll want to set barley to Import instead of Full Trade and choose the amount you want. You'll then buy it at the price listed next to the surplus options.

When getting into trading in Manor Lords, keep the following in mind and act on it:

  • To make sure you have a stable source of money known as Regional Wealth, you should pick a product you have in large quantities and whose selling price is also relatively high.
  • Make sure you have enough food to last through the winter months, since that's when fruit stops growing in the wild.
  • Once you can afford it, try to buy at least one Horse and assign it to your Trading Post.
  • Prioritize importing the goods you need to raise your settlement level and upgrade your Burgage Plots.
  • If your land is fertile for barley and you have enough ale for your tavern, you can export ale.
  • You can also trade livestock in Manor Lords. However, you need to make sure you've built a Livestock Trading Post for that.
  • By building yourself a trading post, you can easily obtain oxen, mules, horses, sheep and lambs.
