Manor Lords Soldier Training Guide: How Do You Form Military Units?
To form military units, go to the Army tab at the bottom of your screen, which looks like two crossed swords. Here you'll find all the units you currently have, plus a plus icon that lets you form more.
There are four types of military units you can form:
| Unit type | Weapons |
|---|---|
| Retinue | Swords
Small Shields |
| Spearmen | Spears
Large Shields |
| Polearms | Polearms |
| Archers | Battle Bows |
Once you select a unit type, you'll see a red number below its image. This shows how many of that unit you can have. For example, a unit could have room for 36 archers. If you only have 20 bows, the number will show as 20/36.
How Do You Make Weapons and Armor?
Armor isn't required to form a unit, but you should know that weapons are mandatory. Because of this, we recommend prioritizing weapon production before making the armor your troops will wear. Here are the weapon types in the game and the materials needed to make them:
| Weapon | Production Building | Materials Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Sword | Blacksmith | 2x Iron Slabs |
| Spear | Blacksmith | 1x Iron Slabs
1x Planks |
| Polearm | Blacksmith | 1x Iron Slabs
1x Planks |
| Battle Bow | Fletcher | 1x Planks |
| Small Shield | Carpenter's Workshop | 1x Planks |
| Large Shield | Carpenter's Workshop | 2x Planks |
How Do You Muster and Use Soldiers in Manor Lords?
Once your troops are organized, you can muster your soldiers from the muster menu by clicking the unit and then clicking the muster icon, which looks like a small flag. The muster point can only be set within the territory its members come from, but once mustered, you can send them anywhere you like. You can check out how your soldiers are used and what they're for below:
| Order | Description |
|---|---|
| Give Ground | Draws the enemy in by moving backward. |
| Watch for Missiles | Troops watch for missiles, which increases ranged defense and reduces melee defense. |
| Balanced | This is neutral, with no stat changes. |
| Hold Position | This is a defensive stance that increases defense and cuts attack frequency in half. |
| Advance | Your soldiers will advance forward! No stat changes. |
| Disband Unit | Militia will disband and return to their jobs. |
| Fire at Will | Archers will aim directly at the enemy (instead of firing in an arc). This reduces long-range accuracy but increases it at close range. |
| Friendly Fire Mode | Enables friendly fire, allowing your troops to potentially harm each other. |
| Run to Positions | Your militia will run to their targets, which will cause fatigue. |
| Hold | Militia will stop and change their formation. |
