In brief
AI summaryIn April 2021, Teamfight Tactics (TFT) Set 5 had four recommended comps, each made of 8 champions and at most two 5-cost legendary champions.
The Dawnbringer Karma comp uses Blue Buff, Jeweled Gauntlet, Rabadon's Deathcap, Morellonomicon and Chalice of Power, starting with 4 Dawnbringer and 2 Manaweaver.
The Nightbringer Aphelios comp runs Guinsoo's Rageblade, Deathblade, Hand of Justice, Morellonomicon and Frozen Heart, and can drop from 6 Nightbringer to 4.

TFT Set 5 is out and ready to play. Getting used to such sweeping changes to units, synergies and items can be very hard in the first few weeks, but we have gone through the Set 5 comps for you and put together the four strongest ones so you can dominate the lobby without wasting any time.
Each comp consists of 8 champions and at most two legendary champions (5-cost). We have briefly covered the items you need, how to position them, the best units for playing the early game, and the late-game adjustments you can make to win your games.
The Best TFT Set 5 Comps
Dawnbringer - Karma

Champions: Gragas, Nautilus, Soraka, Karma, Rell, Ivern, Garen, Volibear
Items: Blue Buff, Jeweled Gauntlet, Rabadon's Deathcap, Morellonomicon, Chalice of Power
Karma uses Blue Buff more effectively than Spear of Shojin because of her 60 mana cost. A Shadow Blue Buff will also benefit Karma, but dropping below her base health is a drawback for her. If you use a Shadow item, Hextech Gunblade will help Karma recover health. A Morellonomicon on Volibear stops the enemy team from healing, which makes life easier for your carries.
Positioning
The goal is to protect Karma and let her deal as much damage as possible. The layout above is the position assumed to work best against a full lobby. It is also worth watching out for Thresh, Vel'Koz and Diana on the enemy team.
To use Morellonomicon faster, your champion needs to take damage. That is why a Volibear with the Wraith synergy will fill this role.
Early Game Units
Ziggs is probably the best unit to carry Karma's items in the early game. For damage, you can pair him with another Sorcerer such as Brand or Viktor. The front line in the early game can be made up of units like Brawlers, Knights and Cavaliers.
Late Game Adjustments
Since you are unlikely to find all 8 units at once, 4 Dawnbringer and 2 Manaweaver is the synergy you should build first for Karma. After that, you can move up to 6 Dawnbringer and get even stronger by adding the Legendary Champions to your board when you reach Level 9. If the enemy team is AP-heavy rather than AD, you can swap your Ironclad champions for Mystics.
Nightbringer Aphelios

Champions: Sejuani, Morgana, Lee Sin, Aphelios, Diana, Rell, Kindred, Darius (5)
Items: Guinsoo's Rageblade, Deathblade, Hand of Justice, Morellonomicon, Frozen Heart
Guinsoo's is Aphelios' best attack speed item, but it needs to be paired with a life steal item. This is where you will need Hand of Justice or Bloodthirster. With Deathblade, Aphelios can stack his ultimate well and deal incredible damage.
A Morgana standing in front with Guardian Angel and Morellonomicon will stop the enemy team from healing, and her crowd control will keep Aphelios very strong in the back. A Diana with Frozen Heart will jump to the backline and slow the enemy carry's movement speed, making things even easier.
Positioning
Thanks to his attack range, Aphelios can attack comfortably from the very corner. With a Kindred placed next to him, you can easily keep Aphelios protected.
Morgana should be at the very front of the team with Guardian Angel. However, if she has no tank items, she can be moved back. Diana should be positioned so she jumps onto clusters of enemy champions, and she should be on the opposite side from Aphelios.
Early Game Units
Vayne and Kalista are the most important AD item carriers in the early stages of the game. An early Ashe is also a great mid-game item holder. Cavaliers such as Kled, Hecarim and Sejuani make the best front line for later transitions.
Late Game Adjustments
The example has 6 Nightbringer, but this can easily be reduced to 4. You can remove Sejuani and Lee Sin for Nautilus and Jax and use 3 Ironclad and 2 Knight. Another option is to remove Sejuani and Lee Sin for Nocturne, Ivern or Volibear. This change adds Assassin and Wraith synergy to your team. If your Aphelios does not have strong items, you can go up to 4 Skirmisher for extra attack speed.
Redeemed - Vel'Koz

Champions: Aatrox, Syndra, Lux, Vel’Koz, Rell, Ivern, Kayle, Volibear
Items: Shojin, Jeweled Gauntlet, Hextech Gunblade, Morellonomicon, Chalice of Power
With Spear of Shojin, Vel'Koz casts abilities faster than with Blue Buff. Jeweled Gauntlet is great on Vel'Koz because he can wipe the entire enemy team off the board instantly. Be careful not to give Vel'Koz a Shadow Hextech Gunblade component. Every attack he makes hurts himself, and he can kill himself.
Volibear is again the best candidate for Morellonomicon. A Chalice of Power on a champion standing in the back will buff Vel'Koz and let him deal more damage. Also, every item you build for Kayle ensures you do not lose your damage source in the bad scenario where Vel'Koz dies.
Positioning
You can tuck Vel'Koz into the corner, and it helps to surround him with your champions to make sure he is safe from Assassins.
Lux should be in the opposite corner as bait. That way, she can reach your backline with its stacked shield. The Morellonomicon holder stays in front. Since it is good to buff both Vel'Koz and Kayle, you can place a Zeke's Herald holder between them.
Early Game Units
Any of the Sorcerer champions can carry the items until Vel'Koz arrives. You can also take all the Redeemed units and use Syndra as the early carry until Vel'Koz arrives. With Leona and the other Knights you can form a strong early front line and empower Aatrox with tank items in the early game.
Late Game Adjustments
There are different ways to play even 6 Redeemed. You can remove Aatrox for Leona and put Garen in his place. That way, you benefit from the Knight synergy and gain Magic Penetration. You can also swap Varus for a Redeemed unit and play Kindred to get Skirmisher and Mystic synergy.
If you only want to drop to 3 Redeemed, you can keep Kayle, Rell and Vel'Koz and empower Vel'Koz by adding another Sorcerer to your team, then find ways to bring Ironclad, Mystic and Knight units together.
Assassin - Nocturne

Champions: Kha’Zix, Leblanc, Katarina, Nocturne, Diana, Ivern, Viego, Volibear
Items: Shadow Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Bloodthirster, Morellonomicon, Blue Buff
Since the Wraith synergy is one that can seriously survive, you need to load Nocturne with as many damage-focused items as possible. A Shadow Infinity Edge looks quite serious here, but since it will hurt Nocturne at some point, it needs to be supported with a life steal item. If Infinity Edge is not a Shadow item, you can also choose Guinsoo's instead of Bloodthirster.
Volibear is once again the carrier for Morellonomicon, and with a Blue Buff on Viego, pulling the enemy team's champions to your side will happen much faster. Since all your units will jump to the other side at the same time, you can strengthen your comp further with Zeke's Herald and Frozen Heart.
Positioning
Volibear will act as a front line on his own. Since Nocturne and Viego will be your main carriers, you need to pick your targets well and position them carefully.
Early Game Units
The easiest way is to give Nocturne's items to Kha’Zix and add Nocturne back to the board later. That said, any carry such as Vayne or Kalista will also work. Going Brawler for an early front line is effective because Kha’Zix and Gragas benefit from the Dawnbringer synergy. Another option is a Coven synergy where Leblanc carries Nocturne's items and Blue Buff.
