TFT Set 5 Release Date, Theme and New Mode

The first Teamfight Tactics set drew huge interest, but that interest faded over time. When Fates launched, Riot Games hoped to win back excitement for TFT, but it didn't get the reception the studio expected from players. It's now been almost two years, and a completely different TFT set is waiting for us!

After the TFT Fates Mid-Set update, all eyes turned to what Set 5 might bring. As TFT designer TJ "GreenTeej" Bourus shared, the new set's name will be "Reckoning," and it will include two new fun modes you can play within TFT. Following Riot Games' video about Set 5, questions about which champions would be added and when Set 5 would arrive on the servers were also answered.

What Is TFT Set 5's Theme and What Features Does It Have?

The next TFT set will move forward on the themes of good versus evil, light versus dark, and chaos versus order, and will center on the ultimate struggle between them. In TFT Set 5, you'll have to choose between two epic powers. Since the choices you make matter a great deal in deciding the world's fate and which direction it moves in, you'll need to think twice before choosing. A new origin is also being added to Set 5. When you build a team from this origin, similar to the Scavenger comp, an egg will appear on your bench, and after a certain number of rounds that egg will hatch, sometimes granting a champion from the dragon class and sometimes various loot. Set 5's central theme of good and evil will be represented by Garen and Darius, and teams will be built around these two leads. The key thing to watch out for is that you should never field these two champions on the same team. Good and evil units are extremely powerful against each other, but when placed on the same team they become quite weak.

TFT Set 5: Little Devil Teemo and Draven

We know very well that you're sick of Teemo. The Teemo who's been the bane of all our existences up until Set 5 comes back with a very different mechanic in the new set. Little Devil Teemo doesn't want gold, and can even be picked up from the shop for free. You might be surprised so far, but hold on, because Teemo wants your health! If you want to add Teemo to your team, you'll need to give up some of that precious health of yours. If you upgrade Teemo to 2-star or 3-star, the amount of health you have to sacrifice will increase as well. Draven, who one-shots everyone, is also making a comeback! If you have items like Bloodthirster, Bombardment, or Infinity Edge, it'll be worth holding them aside for Draven. Just a friendly heads-up...

TFT Set 5: New Game Mode

Alongside TFT Set 5, an in-client fun mode we're not used to seeing is also waiting for us. This fun mode will be called "Hyper Roll," and games will last roughly 15 minutes. In "Hyper Roll" mode, you start each game with 10 health, lose 1 health for every round you lose, and as rounds progress you'll lose 2 or 3 health for each match you lose. One more thing worth mentioning: gold doesn't matter in this game mode! You can use the shop however you like and reroll every round.

TFT Set 5: When Is the Reckoning Release Date?

TFT Set 5 was confirmed to launch on April 28, 2021. The Fates II Pass will expire on that date, and the set will take its place on live servers alongside the TFT 11.9 patch.
