Strong statements from the LCK and LEC

Elsewhere on day one, Dplus KIA defeated G2 Esports, T1 beat Brazil's LOS and CTBC Flying Oyster got past Team Liquid. For Europe, the wins by KOI and Karmine Corp over Chinese opposition were a big morale boost, and Karmine Corp winning its first match after coming through the Play-In Stage stands out. G2's loss, meanwhile, is an early warning for the region's top seed.

How does the Worlds 2026 Swiss format work?

The Swiss Stage runs over five rounds. Teams with three wins advance to the Knockout Stage and teams with three losses are eliminated. According to Riot's official primer, from Round 2 teams are drawn against opponents with the same record. There are no rematches, but same-region matchups are allowed from Round 2. Matches that decide advancement or elimination are best of three; the rest are best of one.

  • Round draws: October 23, 24, 26 and 30
  • Quarterfinals draw: October 31
  • The two 3-0 teams face two of the 3-2 teams; the remaining four are drawn against each other
  • Quarterfinals November 3-6, semifinals November 7-8, Final November 14

So the tournament is far from over for IG, TES, BLG and AL. All four will face other 0-1 teams in Round 2, but every further loss pushes them closer to elimination.
