Clash of Clans changes the number of buildings and walls you have at every Town Hall level, so you need to rebuild your village layout to make the best use of whatever buildings and walls you have.
The two things to keep in mind when shaping your village are farming and trophy protection. Some villages are built more for loot farming, others for trophy protection. A village layout that tries to protect both trophies and loot at once is called a hybrid layout.

Clash of Clans Town Hall 8 Farming Base Layout 2021
Our loot is stored in the gold, elixir, and dark elixir storages. Layouts that keep these buildings in the center of the village, surrounded by defensive buildings, are the ones that will help protect our loot the most. The image below is a great example of this.
The goal of hybrid village layouts is to defend both trophies and loot as much as possible. In these kinds of layouts, the enemy generally takes 1 star and a trophy from us. But this way, we still keep hold of most of our loot. The example village below can also be considered a hybrid layout.
The biggest advantage seen in this example village is that the Town Hall and loot storages are protected by all the mortars and, in stages, by the walls. This gives us strong defense against ground troops.
Clash of Clans Town Hall 8 Trophy Base Layout 2021
In Clash of Clans, players are placed into specific leagues based on their combat skill. You earn trophies from the destruction percentage and stars you get when attacking rival villages. You also earn trophies when your opponent fails to get a star against you in an attack on your village (destruction stays under 50% and your Town Hall isn't destroyed). To earn trophies, you need good attacks and strong defense. As you win trophies you move up leagues, and moving up leagues also increases the loot bonus you receive.
In the example village, the Town Hall sits right in the center of the village and is surrounded by walls in stages. The clan castle and all defensive buildings also defend the Town Hall. Having air defenses close to the village center plays a hugely effective role in stopping our opponent from getting 3 stars against us. Splash-damage wizard towers will also deal damage to groups of enemy troops busy destroying other buildings. Keeping high-HP storages toward the relatively outer part of the village will cause enemy troops to waste time.
Clash of Clans Town Hall 8 Hybrid Honeycomb Base Layout
Honeycomb layout villages are larger and very well protected by walls. During an attack, enemy ground troops get split up and forced to move in different directions. In an air attack, dragons are forced to attack at a very wide angle, so they only end up targeting buildings on the outer part of the village and can't push toward the center, which lets the buildings we've placed at the center survive. This translates into not losing loot and not losing trophies.

Since a clan war isn't a loot war, the only thing that matters is keeping the destruction of your village to a minimum. In the example layout, the Town Hall and clan castle sit at the center of the village in a fully protected position. High-HP gold and elixir storages are positioned toward the outer part of the village to stall enemies. Army camps placed in the 4 corners keep enemy Hog Rider attacks from starting right next to the mortars. Giant bombs placed right next to the mortars are also a precaution against Hog Rider attacks. The best way to bring down a base like this is to attack with P.E.K.K.A. or dragon troops and use your spells very efficiently.
