Player Development Plans in FIFA 23 Career Mode
FIFA 23 Career Mode introduced player development plans a while back, and honestly, they make a real difference in the details of how a player develops.
To change a first-team player's development plan, go to the "Team Hub" section, select the player you want, and you'll find the option in the dropdown menu.
As you'll see in the example image below, using the development plan gives you fairly simple options. Depending on the position the player plays, you can change their player type from a list of predetermined alternatives.
In this example, I chose to change Facundo Farias's development plan from "Balanced" to "Mobile Striker". This choice helps ensure that improvements are prioritized in the areas that help him become that type of player.
Improvements at the base level become clear once the player's overall rating goes up by one point, and you can see the estimated time for that at the top of the development plan page. It also helps show you what's happening behind the scenes with individual attributes.
Development plans can also be set for players who aren't in the first team yet. Go to the "Youth Academy" section, select the player you want, and do the same as before.
Changing a young player's development plan can affect their potential overall rating either positively or negatively, so pay close attention to the choices you make here. These FIFA 23 scouting tips can help improve your chances of signing a young player with high potential.
FIFA 23 Career Mode Training Details
In FIFA 23 Career Mode, it's important to pay attention to how much playing time your players get, and the other area you can use to help them improve ahead of matches is player training.
Choosing the right training types matters too. Make sure your attacking players focus on attacking training and your defensive players focus on defense, and go into detail with all of them.
At the very start of setting up any training, you should actually take control of the players for the first training session yourself and try to come away with a perfect grade. After that, you can decide to simulate the following sessions.
That's because if you simulate from the start without playing yourself, players default to a low grade for the sessions. But if you play and get a good grade, the following simulations will reflect the grades from the sessions you played, giving players a better platform for development.
FIFA 23 Career Mode Loan Opportunities
This works best for young players in particular, since older players who are already playing regularly for your first team have less room for improvement and development.
Young players are more likely to be fighting to break into the first team, so it can be worth loaning them out to clubs that can offer them a reasonable amount of playing time.
In the past, loan deals even had a glitch where you could send a young player out on loan, immediately recall them, and see their potential jump significantly.
That glitch has been fixed, but if you loan a player out and they get enough playing time, it's still beneficial for their development in FIFA 23 Career Mode.
The option to make a player available for loan deals can also be found in the game's squad hub section.
Match Time
Playing time is crucial for developing players in FIFA 23 Career Mode for a number of reasons.
First, even if enough training sessions can get sharpness to a good level, keeping match sharpness high is best done this way.
Second, giving a player regular minutes is the only way to make sure they have good form, and form really matters for growth and development in this game.
Speaking of form, if you're being careful about putting a young player in the best position to reach their potential, you should be mindful of the types of matches you play them in.
These young players often start out with good stats, and that may not be enough to perform at the top level, especially against strong teams.
In cases like this, since better form generally means faster development, you should consider playing them in easier fixtures where they're more likely to get better match ratings.
