Fortnite Guardian Shield: Where to Find It and How to Use It

As part of the January 2023 Fortnite update, Epic Games brought a range of new changes, including the removal of many Christmas-themed items. One new feature is the introduction of the Guardian Shield, which adds another layer of strategy when used correctly. This new item is tied to a series of in-game challenges that encourage players to try it out. But where can you find the Fortnite Guardian Shield, and how does it work?

Where Can You Find the Fortnite Guardian Shield?

Unfortunately, there's no way to guarantee you'll get a Guardian Shield, since they drop randomly from chests around the map. With that in mind, we recommend visiting high-traffic areas with plenty of chests - preferably places with Vault Chests. These are the large white chests that contain rarer loot and can be found in main hubs that aren't covered in snow, like Citadel. Regular chests also provide Guardian Shields. We've had luck finding them at Lonely Labs, but other areas carry the Guardian Shield too. You can also pick one up from an eliminated enemy.

How Do You Use the Fortnite Guardian Shield?

The Guardian Shield itself has a few mechanics tied to it. The simplest feature lets you block enemy weapon fire, grenades, and rockets using the correct trigger. Remember, blocking drains the shield's energy, which is shown by a green bar to the right of the item's icon in your inventory. It recharges, so you'll want to keep that in mind while using it.

You can also drop the item on the ground to create a stationary shield that works much more effectively at blocking enemy fire. Don't forget to pick it back up once you're done.
