Fortnite Pirate Shop makes the Item Shop free for 14 days

The Fortnite Pirate Shop is a rare reward that makes the Item Shop free for 14 days. Added with the Treasure Hunters update on November 1, it can drop from Battle Royale chests and gives you two free shopping windows, one in 2026 and one in 2027.

Someone has already found it. According to Dexerto, a player called snowslept pulled the Pirate Shop from a chest in a regular Solos match and activated it soon after.

What is the Fortnite Pirate Shop?

During the Treasure Hunters mini-season, Battle Royale chests can roll a random treasure. Most are regular in-game items, but dataminer HYPEX found that the Pirate Shop sits in the prize pool every week. Once activated, it lets you claim anything sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop for free for 14 days.

TheGamer quotes the in-game pop-up: "Plunder the Fortnite Item Shop - twice! Activate the Pirate Shop once in 2026 and once in 2027." The first winner confirmed that claimed items are permanent and that Jam Tracks are included.

How do you activate the Pirate Shop?

According to Vice's guide, head back to the lobby and open the Item Shop after you win it. Select "Plunder the Item Shop" and then "Activate Now" to start your 14 days. The timer only starts when you activate, so it's smart to wait until the skins you want are actually in the shop.

1. Open chests in Battle Royale and land the Pirate Shop treasure.
2. Return to the lobby and open the Item Shop.
3. Select "Plunder the Item Shop".
4. Hit "Activate Now" when you're ready.
5. Claim whatever you want from the shop for the next 14 days.

Does playing in a squad help?

In practice, yes. TheGamer reports that ShiinaBR and HYPEX both verified that when one squad member finds the Pirate Shop, everyone in the squad gets both activations. Game Rant also notes that treasures are awarded to the whole squad, so playing in a full team improves your odds.

Limits and open questions

It's generous, but there are limits. Dexerto says real-money offers, gifting, and Battle Pass levels and rewards aren't included, and the reward can't be transferred to another account. You can only claim one free Sidekick you don't already own. Epic Games hasn't shared the drop rate, and it's not yet clear how often it can appear or whether there's a daily cap.

snowslept said they found it in their third match after opening around 150 chests. Replays showed the chest looked like any other, which suggests it's entirely down to luck.

Timing matters too. Treasure Hunters adds new characters every week, starting with A$AP Rocky and the Straw Hats in week one. Make sure the items you want are in the shop before you hit activate.
