Horizon Forbidden West has been much talked about since its release. This article covers, among other things, the core combat system, world exploration and how Aloy gets her gear. Focusing especially on the gear you can acquire, Aloy once again must either craft it herself or buy it from the stores in Horizon Forbidden West. Stores are essentially merchants you can visit to sell your unused items or buy new ones. Of course, this costs a serious amount of money, but sometimes shops are the only way for Aloy to get a piece of gear. This means players will need to unlock the merchants so they can browse the store's wares. Although shops are not available from the start of the game, they open up quite early. So how do you unlock stores in Horizon Forbidden West?

Horizon Forbidden West: How Do You Unlock Stores?
Stores unlock after you complete the first part of the main story quests. After these quests are completed and the world begins to open up for Aloy, you can start visiting stores. In short, to know that you have reached the open part of Horizon Forbidden West, you need to reach a place called “The Daunt”.
After reaching The Daunt, you can keep going until you reach Chainscrape, a town that has the game's first stores and merchants. Unfortunately, these merchants will not sell Aloy anything because of the oppressive rule of their leader, Ulvund.
Ulvund rules Chainscrape and does not let shopkeepers sell anything to Aloy. This means you need to deal with Ulvund before buying anything in town. The two quests you need to complete to deal with Ulvund are called “Deep Trouble” and “The Bristlebacks”. Once these two quests are completed, Ulvund will give up and let the merchants talk to Aloy and sell her items.
These are the first two quests you can complete in Chainscrape, so finding and completing them will not be hard. Keep heading to the green exclamation marks on the map and you will be buying from stores in no time.
