Modern Warfare 2: Two New Game Modes Are Coming

Modern Warfare 2 is another milestone for the COD series. After MW 2019 laid out the series' updated blueprint, IW is back to bring one more new mode to the beloved franchise. There are tons of new features this year, but few will shake up the game's rules as much as the two new Prisoner Rescue and Knockout game modes, which will join the rotation in October 2022. Let's take a look together at the new modes coming to Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 Newly Added Game Modes

Prisoner Rescue

Prisoner Rescue brings the classic hostage-rescue scenario from series like Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six, while still keeping the high-octane Call of Duty experience intact. There are two hostages on the map, and teams are split into Attackers and Defenders. Attackers can win the round either by escorting the hostages to safety or by wiping out all the defenders. Defenders will win either by protecting the prisoners for the entire round or by eliminating the incoming forces.

Knockout

Knockout is more similar to the Gunfight mode from Modern Warfare 2019 and Black Ops Cold War. Teams will go head-to-head using a limited amount of lives to fight for control of a package. Whoever holds the package at the end of the round takes the win, so it'll take real coordination to break enemy setups and deny them the objective. All these changes and more (like the addition of new swimming mechanics) are guaranteed to bring a fresh flavor to the classic arena shooter.
