PS6 Release Date, Price, and Features: What We Know So Far

After Sony Senior Vice President Naomi Matsuoka said earlier in 2024, "Looking ahead, we'll be entering the final stage of the PS5 life cycle," speculation about the PS6 kept growing. Assuming the vice president was referring to the next game console with that comment, players started wondering things like when will PS6 launch? How much will PlayStation 6 cost? What features will PS6 have?

When Will PS6 Launch? Is a Release Date Known?

The biggest clue about when PS6 might launch, or its release date, points to 2027. So unfortunately, we'll likely see the newest game console at the earliest in 2027. How much will PlayStation 6 cost? What features will PS6 have? Let's take a look at those too...

How Much Will PlayStation 6 Cost?

Based on past pricing and rumors, PS6 is expected to launch at a price under $500, or possibly close to the dreaded $600 mark. Still, it's quite difficult to make a firm prediction at this point.

What Features Will PS6 Have?

Some sources say they're 100% certain Sony will continue its partnership with AMD to power the PS6 and PS5 Pro. The same chipset used in the PS5 would make things like backward compatibility and cross-generation games much easier. New-generation AMD chips are planned to launch in 2025, so it seems likely we'll see this feature in the PS6.

Since a big push was made to nearly cut down loading times on the PS5, we think a new SSD will be included, though no information has leaked on this front yet.

When PS6 launches, we can expect 1 TB of storage.

Insider Gaming said it obtained a document about a very unique feature being worked on for PS6, called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). According to Insider Gaming, "this technology will allow games to run at 4K at 120 frames per second (fps) or 8K at 60 fps." A weaker version of PSSR is said to have been applied to the PS5 Pro, though there are also claims it will be used to its full extent on the PS6.
