The new ETH threshold (Thresholds) has both excited and worried a lot of Sorare players. If you ask why, you need to look at this from two angles. First, players using Rare cards were already earning well under the old ETH threshold system and wouldn't want it to change too much. On the other hand, players using other card types would also want to benefit from this threshold system. Under the new system, Sorare seems to have built a system that doesn't want to hurt Rare card players too much, wants everyone to benefit from this threshold, and doesn't want to hand out as many rewards as before. In this article, we've covered all the details of Sorare's new ETH threshold (Thresholds). Let's take a look together at the new ETH threshold (Thresholds) and the impact it will have on players.

Sorare 2023 Update: New ETH Threshold and Capped ModeWhen Will the New ETH Thresholds Take Effect?

Starting January 30, 2023, Sorare will roll out ETH thresholds across the Limited, Rare, Super Rare, and Unique divisions to deliver a more intuitive and balanced gaming experience. These thresholds will be introduced in a new Capped Mode competition for each of the above divisions.

ETH thresholds and easing progression

The first goal of bringing ETH thresholds to the Rare Division was to create a clear path of progression for users who want to climb the game's ranks. In every Game Week, Managers competing in the Global All-Star Rare Division know they'll receive an ETH reward if they hit a certain score target. The product and community have grown a lot since ETH thresholds launched in October 2020. Competitions like Specialist and Underdog brought new strategies, and Limited cards became a new, additional entry point for Sorare Managers.

Having score-based thresholds only in the Rare Division led to unbalanced gameplay between card types. That's why a new ETH threshold covering all cards has now been announced!

Will We Still Be Able to Earn $25 or $50 from Rare All-Star Tournaments Like Before on Sorare?

We used to earn $25 for scoring 205 points and $50 for scoring 250 points in All-Star tournaments we entered with Rare cards. We'll no longer be able to earn these rewards in All-Star tournaments — instead, these rewards have been moved to the upcoming Capped Mode tournament. The way you enter this tournament has changed, made more similar to the NBA version, and the 205-point reward has been removed.

When Is the New Capped Mode Game Mode Coming?

Sorare announced that, drawing on its Sorare NBA experience and the positive feedback it received there, it's taking the same approach here, and announced that as of January 30, 2023, the NBA-style Capped Mode will launch along with the new ETH threshold tournament.

How Do You Build a Capped Mode Team?

  • The team's total score limit can't exceed 240 points. A player's score is evaluated by averaging their scores over their last 15 matches. Below, I've built a sample team based on the current score averages.
  • We won't be able to pick a captain or benefit from card bonuses (making 250 points has become harder than before)
  • Limited, Rare, and Super Rare won't compete against each other in Capped Mode — each card type will compete within its own division.
  • In the Unique Capped Mode competition, you're allowed one Super Rare card.

Is Capped Mode Actually Better?

The lowest rewards, which used to be earned only with Rare cards, have now been extended to all card types, giving players using every card type a weekly chance to earn ETH. While this looks a bit negative for Rare card players, it works out much better for players using other card types. This looks like a move designed to reduce the losses that people building a team from scratch would face from the game's rising price, make the game more appealing across every card type, and especially to boost the value of Limited cards.

How Do You Build a Team for Capped Mode?

Since Capped Mode won't launch until January 30, 2023, we can't show a live roster yet, but I'll build a sample roster that fits the 240-point threshold so you get a clear picture!

Sorare Capped Mode Sample RosterI built a team as if entering the All-Star tournament, and set it up so the players' combined score over their last 15 matches wouldn't exceed 240 points, while also not falling too far below it. The team's total score is 239, which fits the upcoming Capped Mode. The biggest difference in Capped Mode is that the captain bonus and players' XP points won't be factored in. So say Altay scores 60 points and we've entered the All-Star tournament; the captain bonus and XP would add +25% to that score. In Capped Mode, though, only the raw score counts, so it would just be calculated as 60 points.

What Other Card Types Got a Money-Earning Reward?

A summary of the features launching on January 30, 2023:

  • For all card types, you'll be able to earn money if you clear a 250-point ETH threshold in Capped Mode.
  • Players will earn a specific dollar value of ETH for each threshold.
  • Limited Card Threshold: If your team scores 250 or more points in a Game Week with Limited cards in Capped Mode, you'll earn $5 worth of ETH
  • Rare Card Threshold: If your team scores 250 or more points in a Game Week with Rare cards in Capped Mode, you'll earn $50 worth of ETH
  • Super Rare Card Threshold: If your team scores 250 or more points in a Game Week with Super Rare cards in Capped Mode, you'll earn $100 worth of ETH
  • Unique Card Threshold: If your team scores 250 or more points in a Game Week with Unique cards in Capped Mode, you'll earn $250 worth of ETH
  • All-Star Rare competitions will no longer have an ETH threshold, and we'll only be able to earn player cards
  • The 205-point threshold has been removed, and the new lowest score bar is now 250.

How Long Will Sorare's New ETH Threshold (Thresholds) Last?

As a show of transparency, Sorare said the newly announced thresholds will continue at least through July 2023. It also added that they'll be reassessed again ahead of the 2023-24 European football season!

Rare Eligibility Removed from the Super Rare Division

Rare cards that you could previously add to Super Rare tournaments will no longer be eligible, and tournaments you enter with Super Rare cards will now only feature those cards

Is the New ETH Threshold Actually Better?

Removing the 205-point ETH threshold is bad news especially for players using Rare cards. For players who play outside of Rare cards, though, the new system will of course be a lot more rewarding. In my view, Sorare's main goal here is to give players using Limited cards more opportunities and to boost the value of Limited cards. At the same time, we could say it also makes playing with Super Rare and Unique cards more appealing. We won't fully understand how the new threshold system works until the new tournament starts, but leaving the captain and XP bonuses out of this tournament in particular will reduce the number of people who get a reward, which works in Sorare's favor. It's not a huge problem for Rare card players still chasing $50 a week, but it looks like we won't have as easy a shot at 250 points as before.Sorare Capped Mode 2023

How Can I Join Sorare with a Referral Code?

If you're going to join the game, I'd recommend joining with a referral code. Joining with a referral code gives you +1 free player if you buy 5 cards from the game's ongoing New Card Auctions.

You can join the game with a referral code by clicking this link, and you'll earn +1 free card when you buy your first 5 Auction cards.

The game gives you a set window of time (ranging from 100 to 180 days) to buy 5 players (of any card type) through auction for this to count. The time the game gives you is a reasonable and clear enough window to get this done.

What Are the Benefits of Joining Sorare with a Referral Code?

If you join without a referral code, you won't get the free card. Joining with a referral code has no downside — if anything, it benefits you since you get an extra player for free :)
