Xiaomi Unveils MIUI 13 with New Performance and Design Features

Xiaomi users finally got the day they'd been eagerly waiting for. At an event, the company unveiled a new version of its beloved Android-based interface, MIUI. Completely redesigned and updated, MIUI 13 brought plenty of new features along with it.

What Does Xiaomi's MIUI 13 Offer?

Performance Features

MIUI 13 comes with serious design changes, along with significant improvements in optimization and performance. Emphasizing performance with MIUI 13, Xiaomi promises an experience that's about 52% more efficient compared to MIUI 12. Compared to 12.5, that figure sits between 20% and 26%. Even so, optimization improvements have brought battery consumption into better balance. The interface detects apps you're not using based on factors like location and time, and shuts them down to prevent power drain. Beyond that, MIUI 13 will also bring a better power-saving mode, smart tools, Android 12 and virtual RAM expansion to Xiaomi phones. The biggest factor behind MIUI 13's smoothness is support from Focus Computing 2.0. The system doesn't just detect basic scenarios like full-screen gestures — it also delivers fast optimization for third-party apps. This significantly increases the smoothness of everyday use.

Security Features

Xiaomi, which has been working on security, unveiled its new system called "anti-electronic-fraud protection." This three-step system records not just a user's face, but other physical features like the upper body as well. This way, even people with similar-looking faces can't unlock your phone. This lets the company deliver much more successful results from the face recognition technology it already offers.

Design Features

The company changed its typeface and now uses the Mi Sans font. Xiaomi has also made the font more symmetrical, both in spacing and in the appearance of characters. On top of that, Android 12's Material You theme also makes an appearance here. This gives users a much more personalized experience. In addition, icon packs and app appearances also get a new design.

When Will MIUI 13 Release?

According to Xiaomi's announcement, MIUI 13 will start rolling out as an update in January 2022. However, the first phones to get it will be the Xiaomi 12 series. Those devices will ship straight out of the box with MIUI 13.
