When Will ChatGPT 5 Come Out? Is GPT-5 Free?

After releasing GPT-4o in May, OpenAI said it was continuing work on building the world's first Artificial General Intelligence and that it had already begun training its "next frontier model." Following GPT-4o, it's now known that OpenAI is working on GPT-5. It's too early to say whether this idea of building the world's first Artificial General Intelligence will carry over to ChatGPT 5, or whether ChatGPT will push past the limits of the current version to reach a top-tier intelligence. But we can talk about predictions like when ChatGPT 5 will come out and whether GPT-5 will be free...

When Will ChatGPT 5 Come Out?

GPT-4 launched on March 14, 2023, just four months after GPT-3.5 launched alongside ChatGPT. OpenAI hasn't set a specific release date for GPT-5 yet, but the new version is thought to be coming later this year.

Will GPT-5 Be Free?

Right now, there's also a free version of the latest ChatGPT release. The ChatGPT Plus subscription gives users significantly higher rate limits while working with the newest GPT-4o model, as well as access to additional tools like the Dall-E image generator. There's been no word yet on whether GPT-5 will have a free version like this too.

What Features Will It Have?

For now, it doesn't look very likely that GPT-5 will have Artificial General Intelligence; experts estimate that reaching top-tier AI is still a few years to a decade away. Although some voices claimed last August that "human-level" AI could arrive within the next two to three years, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman thinks that milestone could be reached within the next decade. Still, we can briefly go over some of the core features expected of the upcoming new version:

• GPT-5 will offer far more advanced language understanding and generation compared to previous versions. As a result, we can expect fewer grammar mistakes and less semantic drift.
• GPT-5 will be trained on broader and more diverse data sets. This suggests the newest version could perform better across different cultural and linguistic contexts.
• GPT-5 will use greater computing power and more optimized algorithms. In other words, it'll be able to respond faster and handle more complex tasks.
• It will give clearer and more accurate answers to user questions. It could even serve almost as a personal assistant for users!
• Beyond text, GPT-5 will have the ability to work with images and other data types. This feature is already being tested in the current version, but we expect the upcoming version to have a more advanced take on it.
• With GPT-5, the chance of generating harmful content or spreading misinformation could be minimized.
• GPT-5 could offer more customizable (personalized) options. Given the current trajectory, it looks like it's headed that way in a big way :)

For now, what we can say about ChatGPT 5 is limited to this, but we're eagerly waiting for the new version. After all, artificial intelligence is shaping our world these days :) Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, we'll leave that call to you ;)
