Key facts
- Scope: Discoverable Servers (1,000+ members)
- November 16, 2026: Server Web Pages for all discoverable servers
- Mid-December 2026: some messages start appearing in web search
- User setting: User Settings > Data and Privacy
- Admin setting: Server Settings > Web Presence
- DMs, group DMs and private servers are excluded
Why are Discord messages going on the web?
Discord announced the change on its official blog on October 27. The company says message boards were once the norm, from community forums to official ones run by game studios, and that many of those conversations have since moved into Discord servers.
In Discord's words, that has left valuable information locked inside Discord conversations, inaccessible to the wider internet, and it wants to fix that. Kotaku describes Discord's own example: someone searching a common question about a game could get an answer pulled straight from that game's official server.
Which servers and messages are affected?
Only Discoverable Servers are included. These have at least 1,000 members, are listed in Server Discovery by their admins, and can be joined without an invite. Invite-only servers, DMs and group DMs are not part of the change.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| October 27, 2026 | Admin and user controls start rolling out |
| November 16, 2026 | Every discoverable server gets a Server Web Page |
| Mid-December 2026 | Some public-channel messages begin appearing in web search |
| Following weeks | Gradual rollout; first messages may take a few weeks to show |
A Server Web Page describes a discoverable server so people can decide whether to join. It may also show summaries of discussions in public channels. Discord says usernames and avatars won't be displayed alongside messages.

How do you stop your Discord messages showing up?
You can opt out now under User Settings > Data and Privacy. A single toggle covers your channel messages in every discoverable server, and you can switch it off before messages start rolling out in mid-December or at any time after.
One catch: channel summaries are generated separately from broader channel topics. Discord says they'll still appear on Server Web Pages unless admins turn them off, so opting out your own messages won't remove a server's summaries.
Is the setting on by default where you live?
As Rock Paper Shotgun quotes from Discord's post, the member setting is off by default in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea because of legal restrictions. Users in the teen age group are excluded entirely and can't enable it until they're adults. Everywhere else, it's on unless members turn it off.

What can server admins do?
Admin controls live under Server Settings > Web Presence. Admins can pick which channels take part or opt every channel out. If nothing changes, public channels stay on and the server's web page goes live on November 16.
The AI and privacy question
Rock Paper Shotgun points out that Discord's current policy doesn't allow AI companies to train models on users' messages, and asks what safeguards will exist once those messages are publicly available. Discord's announcement doesn't address that directly.
