How Do You Record Audio in Google Slides?

If you have never used Slides before, you can visit this web page to get started quickly. Select the blank slide to start a new slideshow, or open another Slides presentation shared with you in Google Drive. Once you get to a slide that needs an audio effect, you are ready to begin.

  • Slides has no built-in audio recorder, but that is not a big concern when the internet is full of free recording tools. As long as you have a microphone, you can create an audio file to use in Slides.

If this is a one-off audio recording for a single presentation, we recommend the super-quick Rev Online Voice Recorder: just select Record, allow the site, and start talking. If you will be creating lots of audio files over time, you may prefer to install the ChromeMP3 Voice Recorder extension from Hablacloud. If you are not recording something and are using an existing clip instead, make sure it is in a common format such as MP3.

  • To upload your audio file to Google Drive, sign in to Drive, then select New and File upload. Find and select the audio file in your local storage, usually in Recent downloads. It uploads to Drive automatically with Google.
  • On the slide where you want to add audio, select Insert and then choose Audio from the drop-down menu.
  • In the new window, you will see all the audio files currently in Drive. If you have not cleaned up your Drive files in a while, you may need to use Recent or the search tools to help you find it. Once you find it, select the file and then choose Select.
  • Now you will see a small icon on the slide to let you know there is an audio file there, along with a new menu on the right with your Audio playback options.

Spend some time in the audio menu to make sure the sound plays the way it should. You can choose to play it on click or automatically, and adjust the volume depending on when the audio will play. You can also choose whether you want the audio to loop and whether you want it to stop when you move to the next slide.

  • With the settings configured, your slide should now play audio just the way you had in mind. You can repeat this process for any slide in your presentation that needs audio.
