Not a day goes by without new games and new adventures arriving... Independent games in particular have grown a lot on Steam lately; as the games industry has taken an interest in PC and console titles alongside hypercasual games, Steam has been flooded with new releases!

One of these new independent games is Anomaly Agent, the project Enis Kirazoğlu has been working on lately and has repeatedly announced and shown off at the events he attends. Enis Kirazoğlu introduced us to it a short while ago with a trailer showcasing the game's mechanics. Even from that trailer alone, we could feel the retro vibe of the game. Anomaly Agent, which practically brings back memories of 90s games, finally got a demo release! So we said let's see what kind of game Anomaly Agent turned out to be, and started playing... Enis Kirazoğlu's New Game Anomaly Agent Demo Review: How Does It Play?

The game's intro reminded me of Mortal Kombat and those games we played in the 90s. Right from the opening, you'll see that the game features pixel graphics and carries that same atmosphere. The story starts off very simply and takes shape based on the dialogue choices you make. The game shows you which key combinations to use at every step, and new combos get added as you progress through the story. Your enemies grow stronger with each step, and you have to defeat them to move forward in the story. They team up with each other to become even stronger, and you have to stop them with the power combinations the game asks of you. When jumping over obstacles, always run up from behind and try to jump to the highest point you can reach, and don't forget to hold down the key combinations at the same time. Be quick when it comes to your enemies, and don't be late for their next move. You'll also see more clearly as you progress that the dialogue choices you make shape your playthrough.

Did We Like the Graphics, Music, and Story?

The presence of combos, the pixel graphics, and a 90s-style techno soundtrack genuinely took me back to the release days of Mortal Kombat and to the times we first encountered games like it. In the story, you play as an agent who resolves anomaly incidents. Your goal is, alongside Agent 70, to stop the anomalies disrupting the world's balance. As we mentioned earlier, the game progresses based on your choices, and the story takes shape proportionally to that. Having the story progress through our choices was a nice touch too, because it lets us see more clearly what kind of impact we have on the game, and in a sense we end up shaping the game according to our own wishes. The graphics also fit the game well since they reflect the atmosphere of the 90s, though of course there may be areas to improve going forward. Considering the game is still in demo form, I'd say it's already doing a solid job as it is. The synthwave music also makes the story a lot more enjoyable. It's a game we can strongly recommend, especially if you love the iconic games of the 90s, full of action and adventure without heavy graphics.

When Will Anomaly Agent Release?

Unfortunately, the release date for the game, developed by Phew Phew Games, isn't known yet, but given that the demo version has already been made available to players, we don't think it's too far off. As noted on Steam as well, we may get to see the full game quite soon. In the meantime, if you're thinking "let me open this up and play something nice to kill some boredom" and you love 90s action-adventure games, you can download the game's demo through this link and play it for free.
