Here's a rundown of the best tips, tricks and a few small quirks you should know about Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2 Tips and Tricks 2022

Loot Everything

A huge part of Dying Light 2, like the first game, is looting the items you find on your travels. Almost every room, box, cabinet and drawer in the game has something worth grabbing. The main reason you'll want to do all this looting is, of course, crafting. You'll use these materials to craft almost every item in the game and to mod your own weapons. But you may also need items you pick up for quests and the like.

You Don't Have to Kill Every Zombie

As fun as combat in Dying Light 2 is, it can sometimes be smarter to avoid zombies altogether. For one thing, weapons have varying durability stats, so you can't just swing at every enemy you see. Depending on the level of the area you're in, taking down even a single zombie can ideally take longer than you'd like, and these small skirmishes often draw in nearby zombies, eventually snowballing into a huge pool of enemies. This is especially true at night, when most zombies are out in the streets and there are plenty of new variants ready to jump you.

Stay Up High and Avoid Street Level

You may not even need to be on the same level as the zombies. Parkour is a massive part of Dying Light 2, and you should make full use of the freedom the game gives you to navigate its huge world. If you chain your parkour moves correctly, you can stay on rooftops almost 100% of the time. This especially helps you avoid zombies at night, when certain variants can summon other zombies and force you into a chase. It's also a great way to scout an area and get the lay of the land. Basically, don't go down to street level unless you have to.

Block, Parry and Dodge

Combat in Dying Light 2 is fairly forgiving and easy to understand. By default, you can block enemy attacks just by holding down the block button. If you time it right, you can pull off a parry that staggers your opponent and lets you use them as a springboard to kick another unlucky soul in the face. Dodging doesn't cost stamina, and your character can dodge twice in any direction before stumbling, so keep that in mind.

Dying Light 2 Tips

Nighttime Is a Good Time

Okay, nighttime in Dying Light 2 isn't actually a good time. Most zombies are out in the streets, it's very dark, your immunity keeps draining, and there are tougher, scarier zombie types roaming around. But night also earns you far more DP for both parkour and combat. On top of that, many of the game's side content and garbage-collection quests want you to attempt them at night, for a simple reason: the enclosed spaces where they take place are much easier to explore at night than during the day, when the undead are roaming the streets.

If It Ain't Broke, You Can't Fix It

Unlike the first Dying Light, the sequel doesn't let you repair weapons once their quality drops. You can't reverse this, but you can mod your favorite weapons to delay the effect. Every mod comes with a durability boost listed on its description card. You may be better served picking a mod with higher durability rather than raw damage. The good news is that Dying Light 2 gives you new weapons almost constantly.

Check Vendors Often

Shops and vendors in Dying Light 2 restock regularly. As soon as you level up, visit your nearest vendor to see what they have, since their entire stock will get an upgrade suited to your current level.

Stamina Matters More Than Health

You can play Dying Light 2 like a tank, blocking every hit and daring enemies to drain your huge health pool. But that's not fun. Instead, you should spend most of your unlock points on stamina. Having a large stamina pool helps you climb higher before getting tired, and it'll save you if you miss a jump or a handhold, since you'll have enough juice left to keep climbing.

Dying Light 2 Tips

Don't Bother Hunting for Inhibitors

The only way to increase your stamina or HP in Dying Light 2 is, of course, finding these inhibitors. You can spend a lot of time hunting them down, tracking your pocket tracker to figure out exactly where they are. But you don't have to. Normal story progression hands you plenty as-is. You'll find them at GRE locations and elsewhere in the world, and while it's always worth grabbing one if you're in the area, don't spend extra time hunting for them if you don't want to.

Unlock as Many Safe Houses as Possible

There are safe houses everywhere in Dying Light 2. They're not always actual houses, of course — sometimes it's just a few UV lights and a bed on a rooftop somewhere. But they all serve the same function: they let you sleep to pass time, give you access to your stash, and, more importantly, act as your respawn point when you eventually die. The more of these you unlock, the closer you'll respawn to wherever you died. Activating a safe house is just a matter of finding it and turning on the generator. The game world has good coverage, so take some time to light up a few of these bonfires — or in this case, UV lights.

Military Airdrops Can Save Your Life

Another thing you should definitely go for in Dying Light 2 is these military airdrops. Since they're usually sitting on a rooftop somewhere, they almost always come with a platforming challenge. Solving the puzzle to reach them will take some time, but it's worth it. These airdrops carry plenty of top-tier loot. Once you reach the game's second map, reaching them gets harder because of how large these buildings are.

Flares and Molotovs Are a Deadly Combo

If you find yourself surrounded by a huge horde of zombies, especially if you're trying to escape their grab attacks, there's a way to efficiently wipe them all out at once. Using a flare or bait to draw them into one spot, then following up with a hot Molotov once they've all gathered, is a great way to get rid of zombies. This is especially useful indoors, where you're sometimes surrounded by several of them without anywhere to run. Depending on the level of Molotov you have, you might not kill them all, so you'll need to clean up the rest later.

Prioritize Gear With XP Bonuses Early

A good way to quickly get through the early skill-grinding process is to wear gear with XP bonuses for parkour or combat. If you stack up a bunch of small bonuses here and there, they all add up and you'll make a lot of progress in the early levels.

You're Not Safe While Picking Locks

If you're the type to stop and pick every chest and car trunk you come across in Dying Light 2, here's a quick tip. You should clear the area around you before attempting the animation, especially if it's a tough lock or one of the harder ones. Basically, don't leave your back exposed.

You Can Sacrifice Lock Picks to Skip the Lockpicking Animation

If you're really in a hurry and have plenty of lock picks, you can skip the lockpicking animation entirely in Dying Light 2. Just sacrifice a few lock picks and press the alternate interact button to get instant access to the contents.

Pay Attention to the Bells

Time flies fast during the days in Dying Light 2. If you're too busy to actually check the clock, listen for the bells. You'll hear bells ring at different points of the day: noon, afternoon, night, and so on. The first night is the loudest, coming with extra sirens and immersive music.
