The following footballers are among EA SPORTS FC 25's new Icons:

Gareth Bale

The first name among EA SPORTS FC 25's new Icons is Gareth Bale. Gareth Bale's Premier League fame peaked when he won Tottenham's Player of the Season award in the 2012-13 season. His transfer to Real Madrid that summer took him to new heights, and he won every trophy on offer, including 3 LaLiga and 5 UEFA Champions League titles. After leading his side to a fourth-place finish at their first UEFA EURO appearance in 2016 and qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he retired as Wales's most-capped player and all-time top scorer.

Gianluigi Buffon

The Tuscan-born player first made his mark by winning the 1998-99 UEFA Cup with Parma. His transfer to Juventus later took him to new heights, where he won 10 Serie A titles between 2011-12 and 2017-18, seven of them in a row. His greatest achievement was lifting the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and his heroics with the Azzurri earned him second place in that year's Ballon d'Or.

Lotta Schelin

Lotta Schelin is also among EA SPORTS FC 25's new Icons. After joining Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2008, the player won three UEFA Women's Champions League titles and eight league titles. She retired as Sweden's all-time top scorer and helped her country finish third at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Marinette Pichon

Marinette Pichon left her home country of France in 2002 to join the first fully professional women's league in the United States. Although she missed out on the title in her first season with Philadelphia Charge, she won the MVP Award, outshining a roster packed with local and international stars. She then carried that momentum onto the international stage, leading France to their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup appearance in 2003, where she scored Les Bleues' first-ever goal in the tournament.

Lilian Thuram

Lilian Thuram, another new EA SPORTS FC 25 Icon, wrote one of the most thrilling chapters of France's 1998 FIFA World Cup conquest: after Croatia took a 1-0 lead in the semifinal, the relentless defender turned the game around with a stunning header, paving the way to the final. His efforts at right-back earned him the Bronze Ball as the tournament's third-best player. His storied career also includes UEFA EURO 2000 with Les Bleus, the 1998-99 UEFA Cup with Parma, and 2 Serie A titles with Juventus.

Julie Foudy

After making her first international appearance for the United States at just 17 years old, Julie Foudy became a key player on a leading team in a country only beginning to embrace football in the nineties. Following USWNT's success at the first FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991, the team clinched a dramatic second world title on home soil in 1999. The excitement that built around the team helped plant the seeds of full professionalism in women's football at the turn of the millennium.

Aya Miyama

Aya Miyama's resilience in the face of adversity helped Japan make history at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. "Nadeshiko" trailed heavy favorites the United States twice in the final, and both times Miyama stepped up to keep their hopes alive. She first scored the equalizer, then later set up Homare Sawa's extra-time goal from a corner to send the match to penalties, ultimately securing her team's victory.

Nadine Angerer

Nadine Angerer, EA SPORTS FC 25's final new Icon, made a stylish debut as Germany's first-choice goalkeeper at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, keeping a clean sheet throughout the tournament — including a saved penalty against Brazilian superstar Marta in the final — to secure the title.
