NBA 2K made a major innovation in its 2K21 version, giving basketball players a large open world space called "The City." In this space, players could walk around with their own characters, play online matches, do personalized training, and take part in various events.

NBA 2K's The City mode allowed players to experience real-world basketball in a virtual city setting. Similarly, EA FC's open world mode is expected to take a similar approach.
