FIFA 22 Team of the Season Player Predictions! Who Are the FUT TOTS Candidates?

Once again at this time of year, TOTS cards are just around the corner. FUTBIN is kicking off its prediction series with the Community TOTS, keeping the same criteria as last year and only including players with ONE PERFORMANCE-BASED special card! There are plenty of options for every position, so you might not see some of the names you're expecting on this list. Also keep in mind that the Community will likely vote again, and most people tend to vote for the players who are simply best for FUT in terms of league and country, so players who deserve it but don't fit well chemistry-wise likely won't make the cut!

Who Are the FIFA 22 TOTS Candidates?

FUT 22 TOTS - Goalkeeper

David De Gea GK – Manchester Utd - 87 -> 92 RTG: While David de Gea couldn't quite live up to expectations at Manchester Utd by the end of the 2020/21 season – with backup keeper Dean Henderson getting the chance to start plenty of matches – he suffered a huge disappointment when he returned in goal for the Europa League final, missing his own kick in the historic penalty shootout and conceding the opposing goalkeeper's. Having healed last year's wounds and looking back to his old self with his performances, De Gea has been in great form and has largely been among United's best players this season, bailing the team out of disaster many times in an otherwise rough campaign.

Given that he's the only goalkeeper to win the POTM award this season, his odds of being picked as the TOTS goalkeeper look very high, and people can vote for him.

FUT 22 TOTS - Defenders

M. Akanji CB – Borussia Dortmund - 85 -> 91 RTG: Predictions start with the defenders, and there's a strong chance that Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund's Manuel Akanji makes this squad. You could argue that a player from a team that concedes a lot of goals shouldn't get a TOTS card, but Akanji has had his best season since joining the club and has been Dortmund's best defender so far. It's not known whether people will vote for him, but since people tend to vote for the best player for FUT, it's expected that he could make it if nominated.

Ben White CB – Arsenal - 81 -> 90 RTG: Next up among Premier League defenders is Arsenal's talented centre-back Ben White. Eyebrows were raised when Arsenal decided to set aside £50m for Ben White in the summer, but it's proven to be quite a shrewd transfer. The English centre-back has grown significantly stronger under Mikel Arteta and has become one of the key names in the Gunners' rising form.

F. Tomori CB – Milan - 82 -> 89 RTG: Another point on the board for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in 2021. The English centre-back started 2021 as a Chelsea backup player, but is now regarded as one of the most reliable centre-backs in the world. In the absence of Simon Kjaer, the 24-year-old helped his captain Romagnoli hit his best form. He's one of the best defenders in Serie A this season, and one of the biggest factors in his selection is that they're the team closest to the Serie A title.

R. Araujo CB – FC Barcelona - 77 -> 90 RTG: Barcelona may not be where they want to be right now, having failed to reach the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time since Messi made his first-team debut in 2004. But it's easy to say that has nothing to do with Araujo, who's given everything he has since joining the squad as a backup centre-back in 2020. The Uruguayan international is improving every week and building his name. While Araujo is certainly not yet at the level of predecessors like Carles Puyol, he's one of the best centre-backs in La Liga this season.

FUT 22 TOTS - Midfielders

M. Merino CM – Real Sociedad - 87 -> 91 RTG: Mikel Merino joined Real Sociedad from Newcastle in 2018, and has proven himself in the middle of the park ever since. The versatile midfielder has been important this season for a Real Sociedad side chasing a European adventure. Merino has made 25 La Liga appearances for Real Sociedad, scoring three goals and providing two assists so far. The 25-year-old has matured a great deal since his brief spell in the Premier League and has become a key player for his club.

D. Payet CAM – Marseille - 88 -> 92 RTG: The fact that Dimitri Payet is 34 years old and his market value has dropped to as low as €5 million hasn't stopped him from showing what he can do, and it doesn't seem to bother him much either. The French player has been one of the most entertaining figures to watch since arriving in Ligue 1. Since returning to Marseille in 2017, Payet has consistently performed well, but this may be his best season yet, as he's been one of the biggest architects behind Marseille's high position in the Ligue 1 table. Having scored 9 goals and provided 9 assists so far this season, Payet has become one of Ligue 1's best, and even though he hasn't reached the heights everyone believed he would, he still deserves a TOTS card.

Declan Rice CDM – West Ham - 84 -> 92 RTG: The Premier League is full of talented midfielders, but few are as effective as Declan Rice. The English defensive midfielder has been at the top of his form for West Ham United in the 2021/22 season. Declan Rice's game isn't about goals or assists, it's about the stability and control he brings to the game. One day, likely in the future, West Ham will sell him for a lot of money.

FUT 22 TOTS - Forwards

Deulofeu LW – Udinese - 82 -> 91 RTG: Italy's Serie A is an extremely tactical league, and it's started producing a lot more goals in recent seasons. There are plenty of big names in the scoring charts, and one player who isn't among them but still has a big impact on his team's play is Deulofeu. The Spanish forward, who usually plays on the left wing, has managed to score 9 goals and provide two assists for Udinese Calcio this season, and is aiming for another year of top-flight football.

He'd make a good card for hybrid squads.

J. Vardy ST – Leicester City - 92 -> 94 RTG: At 35, he continues to age like wine, improving in quality and entertaining the crowd in typical Jamie Vardy fashion. The talented forward is known for his relentless, direct approach and high work rate, and even though he isn't in the top 5 of the scoring charts this season with 10 goals and 2 assists, he's likely to get a TOTS card if nominated.

T. Abraham ST – Roma FC - 82 -> 91 RTG: Tammy Abraham is another name among Serie A's top scorers in the 2021/22 season. Lukaku's return to Stamford Bridge last summer led Chelsea to sell Tammy Abraham to Roma for €40 million, and the English player hasn't disappointed so far. Abraham has scored 23 goals in all competitions for his team so far, and has finally started earning the respect he deserves in Italy.

He absolutely deserves a TOTS card.

FUT 22 TOTS - Bench Players

T. Djalo CB – LOSC Lille - 85 -> 90 RTG: Ligue 1 has plenty of young, promising talents in every position, and one of them is Lille's Tiago Djalo. The young Portuguese centre-back transferred to Lille from Milan U19 for €4 million, and that looks like a very good price. Even though Fonte and Botman are the ideal centre-back pairing, Djalo has gotten plenty of playing time and has shown why he could be a great investment for the future.

M. Brozovic CDM – Inter - 84 -> 91 RTG: Hakan and Barella may be the stars of the midfield, but would things really be the same without Brozovic alongside them? The Croatian star is the key anchor who holds everything together for Inzaghi. He's the engine running at the heart of the defending champions, and it's easy to see how often he drops back to advance play and dig the ball out of the toughest situations, as well as how hard he works to help his team win the ball back.

G. Guedes LW – Valencia CF - 84 -> 90 RTG: Although they're not a threat to the teams chasing Europe in La Liga, sitting 10 points behind Real Betis, Valencia are still one of the most established clubs in Spain, and Guedes is probably their most important attacking player. Even though he's performing very well this season with 11 goals and 5 assists, his odds of getting a TOTS card don't look very high.

L. Ajorque ST– Strasbourg - 82 -> 90 RTG: Ludovic Ajorque has been one of the strongest forwards in Ligue 1 since the current transfer window business began. The Racing Strasbourg forward has become one of goalkeepers' worst nightmares, recording 10 goals and 7 assists in 25 matches.
