How did Gentle Mates get here?
Esports Insider notes this is Gentle Mates' first Game Changers Championship. They qualified as EMEA's second seed through circuit points. In São Paulo they swept Team Liquid Brazil and MIBR GC 2-0 before the upper final.
Shopify Rebellion Gold lost last year's final in Seoul 3-2 to Team Liquid Brazil. This time they had cleared SK Nebula and KRÜ BLAZE without dropping a map, so Gentle Mates handed them their first map loss and first series loss of the event.
A Cinderella run for the EMEA side
The roster of Marti, Nami, Wens, safiaa and berryx was already ranked fourth in the Elo power rankings with a 1844 rating and a 33-7 record. Shopify sat sixth on 1809. Even so, VLR.gg frames the run as an upset story, with Wens singled out as an MVP candidate. Gentle Mates celebrated on social media with a simple message: they are going to the Worlds final.
