If you're already thinking about deleting your Threads account, we have some bad news for you — you can't do that in this case.
The only way to delete your account is to also delete your Instagram account.
That said, as Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has explained, if you simply don't want to use Threads anymore, you can deactivate your account.
In a post on the photo-sharing platform, he wrote, "I'm getting some questions about deleting your account."
To clarify, you can deactivate your Threads account, which hides your profile and content, set your profile to private, and delete individual thread posts — all without deleting your Instagram account.
"Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it's just one account, but we're looking into a way to let you delete your Threads account separately."
How Can You Deactivate Your Threads Account?
If you want to deactivate the Threads app, you can follow the steps below:
- Go to your profile in the Threads app and tap the 'double bar' icon in the top right corner
- This brings up an options menu. From here, select 'Account'
- From the options this gives you, tap Deactivate profile, then confirm by tapping 'Deactivate Threads'.
