OSM Counter Tactic for Weak Opponents 2024: Tactics and Player Selection

We recommend two basic tactics you can use against weak opponents: 4-3-3A and 4-3-3B. There are some differences between the two, but you can use either one effectively. Since we usually prefer 4-3-3B, we'll break it down in this article, but we'll also explain how to run both tactics.

OSM Counter Tactic for Weak Opponents 2024: Full-Backs and Centre-Backs

When playing against weak opponents, your full-backs need high attacking power. Full-backs who are strong going forward pressure the opposing defense and give your team an edge. For example, if your right and left full-backs are already solid in attack, you should pick centre-backs with lower attacking power. We don't have specific players in mind, but if you had players like Chus and Hernandez available, you could use them. Focusing on these players' defensive strength makes it easier to shut down the opponent's attacks.

For your midfield, keep one defensive-minded number 6. Every other player should have high attacking power. That includes your number 8s and your wingers. Adopting an attack-focused playing style against weak opponents gives you a scoring edge.

Positions and Tactics

You can use two different playing styles: a passing game or a game built around the wings. If your midfield is strong, go with the passing game. If your wingers are strong, use that tactic and play through the wings. In line tactics, forwards should support the midfield, and midfielders should support the forward. Defenders should hold their position. Away from home, or if the opponent isn't much weaker than you, midfielders can be kept in position, but it's important that they help the forward.

Sliders and Playing Style

For the sliders, we recommend two approaches. In the first, you can keep your pressing between 56-65. For style, play in the 65-71 range. This lets you play attacking football. In the second option, keep your pressing between 70-76. This is a more cautious playing style, but you shouldn't be afraid to decide which sliders you normally want to use.

Continuing on sliders and playing style, our recommendation is to keep pressing between 61-66. We keep our style somewhere between 73-79, usually settling on 78. For tempo, you can go as high as 87. You can play one-touch football. But if you don't want to overdo it, you can bring it down to 79. It's important not to drop below the 83-84 range. We don't use zonal marking or the offside trap.

Specialists and Player Selection

For set-piece specialists, try to use different players. Having different players take penalties, free kicks and corners will give your team a variety of contributions. For free kicks, go with your wide forwards. When building your squad, fill any empty roles with your strongest, most attacking players.
