RTX 5080 prices soar past $2,000 at US retailers

RTX 5080 prices have soared past $2,000 at US retailers. In a 28 October spot check, Wccftech found in-stock cards selling for roughly $1,800 to well over $2,300, close to double NVIDIA's $999 MSRP.
Key facts
- MSRP: $999 (January 2025)
- Current US prices: about $1,800 to $2,300+
- Cheapest found: $1,829.99 at Micro Center
- Best Buy: a PNY model at $1,999.99
- Newegg's own stock: sold out or "coming soon"
How much does an RTX 5080 cost right now?
Wccftech checked major US retailers on 28 October. Most of the cheaper models were out of stock, and the cards still available were priced far above MSRP.
| Retailer | Model | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro Center | Gigabyte Windforce SFF OC | $1,829.99 | In-store pickup only |
| Best Buy | PNY RTX 5080 | $1,999.99 | Same as the RTX 5090's launch MSRP |
| Newegg (sold by Newegg) | Various | - | Sold out / coming soon |
| Newegg (third party) | PNY RTX 5080 ARGB OC | $2,299 | 130% over MSRP |
Micro Center had the lowest price, though Wccftech notes it is in-store pickup only, with more than 25 units reportedly at its Columbus location. The Best Buy listing stands out for a different reason: $1,999 was the original MSRP of the much faster RTX 5090.

What is happening at Newegg?
A Reddit thread highlighted Newegg listings approaching or exceeding three times the MSRP. Wccftech says most of those figures come from third-party marketplace sellers rather than Newegg itself.
With the "New" and "Sold by Newegg" filters applied, every listed new RTX 5080 was either sold out or marked "coming soon", so buying one directly from Newegg currently looks impossible. Third-party seller GH Electronics, meanwhile, lists a PNY RTX 5080 ARGB OC at $2,299.
What does the RTX 5080 offer on paper?
To see why the price matters, it helps to look at the card itself. According to NVIDIA's official product page, the RTX 5080 is built on the Blackwell architecture and ships with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory.
- CUDA cores: 10,752
- Memory: 16 GB GDDR7, 256-bit
- Boost clock: 2.62 GHz (base 2.30 GHz)
- AI performance: 1,801 AI TOPS
- Features: DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, Reflex 2
It sits just below the RTX 5090 in NVIDIA's lineup. The GDDR7 detail is relevant here, because the cost of that very memory type is one of the factors linked to the price increases.
Why has the RTX 5080 become so expensive?
Wccftech does not name a single cause, but lists some likely factors. It previously reported RTX 5080 prices rising by about $300 in China amid tightening supply and higher GDDR7 memory costs.
The bigger picture is a memory shortage, mainly driven by demand for AI infrastructure, which keeps pressure on the graphics card market. Memory maker SK hynix said last week the shortage could last until 2030, as we covered in our SK hynix memory shortage story.
Still, Wccftech stresses it is unclear how much each factor explains current US shelf prices. What is clear is that readily available RTX 5080 cards now carry a hefty premium.

What it means for PC gamers
For anyone planning an upgrade soon, the picture is grim. Paying double the MSRP for a $999 card is hard to justify, and Wccftech says PC gamers now face considerably higher costs than NVIDIA's original pricing suggested.
