Samsung Galaxy S22 Will Also Launch in the Metaverse

When Samsung officially unveils its sleek Android devices at 10:00 AM ET on February 9, it will present them online, in a YouTube video, on social media, and in downtown New York City. Samsung set up its virtual store inside Decentraland, a 3D virtual world browser reminiscent of Second Life. Decentraland, which launched in February 2020, is also a crypto gaming space where members can connect their crypto wallets and buy land as NFTs.

Why the Metaverse? Why not is the better question. Even though very few consumers actually understand, use, or live in the Metaverse, it's the digital event of the moment. TechRadar took a quick tour of Decentraland ahead of Samsung's big event to get a feel for the experience.

How Do You Join the Samsung Galaxy S22 Metaverse Launch?

To access all the features you sign up using your crypto wallet, but you can also log in as a guest. Either way, you design your avatar, including hairstyles, clothes, and accessories. Then you use your keyboard and mouse to move around the 360-degree environment. Inside 837X there's a cave-like, daylight-colored area full of techno music. There are glowing orbs, apparently purchasable outfits, and Samsung marketing. We paused at one point, but then our avatar started dancing on its own. We hope it knows to stand still while watching the Unpacked Event. If the real-world 3D experience suits your style better, Samsung has also rolled out a series of eye-catching Galaxy video ad billboards in New York City, London, South Korea, Dubai, and Malaysia. In each one, a giant corner billboard is transformed into what looks like a huge open-air enclosure for the world's largest tiger, which loves to poke its giant paw outside the edges of the billboard screen. As you might guess, it's a sophisticated visual effect that makes the screen area look smaller than the tiger. If you'd rather watch Samsung Unpacked in the Metaverse, on Twitch, or on Samsung's traditional website, be sure to bookmark TechRadar for all the details and our unique insight into what it all means.
