How Are Sorare Training/XP Player Bonuses Calculated? How Should You Choose a Captain?

What to Watch For When Choosing a Captain on Sorare

Our guide articles on what you need to do to succeed on Sorare, and on gameplay, continue. Today's topic is captain selection, what to watch for when choosing one, and how XP bonuses are calculated.

How Are Sorare XP Player Bonuses Calculated? How Should You Choose a Captain? How Much Does Choosing a Captain Affect Your Sorare Team?

When you put together a team for any tournament on Sorare, you need to pick one captain for that team. Whoever you choose as captain earns 20% more bonus than the other players that week, which positively affects their score. If your captain scores higher than your other players, the percentage boost it affects is bigger too, so you gain an advantage in the weekly standings.

How Do I Choose a Captain on Sorare?

What should you watch for when choosing a captain on Sorare?

After selecting your players by position for the tournament you're entering, a "C" appears on the cards from the most recent tournament you joined (goalkeepers can't get it since they're a common card); if you tap on the player you want...

How Much Does Choosing a Captain Affect Your Team on Sorare?

...a "C" appears inside a yellow circle, and you have selected your captain. If you tap the confirm button in the corner, your team is set and waits ready for the week you'll compete in. Before selecting a captain, in the image above, the players only had the XP bonuses they earned from training and their new season bonuses. If we continue with the captain we chose: before Yuma Suzuki was made captain, he was giving a total of 8.5%+ bonus from his 2021-2022 new season card bonus of +5% and +3.5% XP score. After the 20% captain bonus was added, he started getting a 28.5% bonus.

What Should You Watch For When Choosing a Captain on Sorare?

When choosing a captain for your Sorare team, you should factor in the match they'll play that week and how likely they are to perform well. If the player you're considering has been in good form in recent weeks and is playing a relatively easy opponent, it makes more sense to make them captain that week. Another example: if your player loves big matches and it's derby week, you might give them the captaincy figuring they'll put in more effort and be more motivated for that match. This choice is entirely up to you, but before choosing, study all the matches of the players you're considering closely and look over what each of them can do. Don't always give the captaincy to your team's best player, and don't be emotional about it. Decide with logic, without getting too emotionally invested, on the player you think will do the most work.

How Much Do Training XP and Bonuses Affect Players on Sorare?

How Much Do Sorare Player Bonuses Affect Performance?

If you have a player's new season card, you get +5%; you also earn bonuses based on the total XP bonuses they have gained from the matches they have played (I'll explain this in detail); and if you made them captain, you get +20% bonus.

If Suzuki scores 80 points this week, adding his +28.5% gives us an extra 22.8 points, for a total score of 102.8 points. If Suzuki had scored 50 points, he'd have gotten +14.25 points added, for a total of 64.25 points. Since your captain's high score directly affects the extra points they'll earn, you need to analyze well and pick the right person when choosing a captain.

How Is Sorare's Training XP Bonus Calculated?

Let's clear up something many players don't even know while playing. XP bonuses are added when you play your players regularly, and you earn XP bonuses based on their levels.

What determines Sorare's XP bonus calculation?

The part I have highlighted in the red box is the XP bonus my player has earned so far, currently 2334.

Sorare XP bonus calculation chart

In this table, we see the levels players earn based on their XP. Every time a player levels up, they gain 0.5 bonus points, meaning their XP bonus is half their level. If a player is level 1, they give a 0.5 XP bonus. Let's use Suzuki as an example, since we started with him. The player currently has 2334 points, putting them at level 7, so they have a 3.5 XP bonus. If I keep playing him regularly, once he reaches 2400 points, he'll give me a 4 XP bonus.

Every time a card is played during a match week, it accumulates experience (XP). XP will help level the card up to a maximum of level 20 over 3 years. XP and level progression are designed so that, with regular use, a card will gain 10 levels in its first season. Reaching another 10 levels beyond that will then require two more seasons of regular use.

So no matter how much XP I earn with Suzuki, he'll max out at level 10 until new season cards arrive. That's because new season cards get a +5% XP bonus, so this is meant to keep the value of old season cards from dropping too much and to keep things fair.

Does Training XP Bonus Change After You Transfer a Player on Sorare?

Yes, when a player is transferred (through trading or sold on the secondary market), the XP accumulated on the card drops by 50%. It's important to note: it's the XP that gets halved, not the level. Since XP progression can be regained over time, halving the XP doesn't halve the card's level bonus.

How Is It Calculated When Training XP Changes?

Even though the level bonus doesn't drop by half like the XP bonus does, it does still see a drop. It'll make more sense with an example. I'll use the first card that came up while I was writing this article.

Sorare XP Change After Transfer: Boris Lambert

If we transfer the second player, Boris Lambert, he'll join our team with a +8% bonus.

Sorare Boris Lambert 2

But the player's normal XP bonus isn't actually +8%, it's +9.5%, and the current owner gets a +9.5% XP bonus by playing him. Let's look at why the score dropped by -1.5%...

Sorare Boris Lambert 3

In the image above, the player's total XP score is 3327, meaning level 9. A player at level 9 gets +4.5% XP.

Does Sorare's XP Bonus Change After a Transfer?

When a level 9 player is transferred and drops to level 6:

  • At level 9, they got +4.5%,
  • Dropping to level 6, they get +3%.

So there's a -1.5% difference between them. Looking back at the image above, you'll see the player's non-transferred XP shown as -1.5%. That confirms the math.

Do Level and Training XP Differ by Card Type on Sorare?

Yes, of course. The top-level threshold changes depending on the quality of the player's card.

A card's starting level depends on the card's quality.

Here are the level ranges:

Limited: Reaches a minimum of 0, maximum of level 20 = a level bonus from 0% to 10%

Rare: Reaches a minimum of 0, maximum of level 20 = a level bonus from 0% to 10%

Super Rare: Reaches a minimum of 40, maximum of level 60 = a level bonus from 20% to 30%

Unique: Reaches a minimum of 80, maximum of level 100 = a level bonus from 40% to 50%

Do Level and XP Differ by Card Type on Sorare?

In the example above:

  • Hans Vanaken is Rare, and has an 8% bonus because the card is level 16/20.
  • Saul is Super Rare, and has a 26% bonus because the card is level 52/60.
  • Nabil Fekir is Unique with a 46% bonus because the card is level 92/100

How Big Can Sorare Get?How Can I Join Sorare With a Referral Code?

If you're going to join the game, I recommend joining with a referral code. If you join with a referral code, buying 5 cards from the game's ongoing New Card Auctions gets you +1 free player.

You can join the game with a referral code by clicking this link, and you can earn a +1 free card when you buy your first 5 auction cards.

The game gives you a set window (ranging from 100 to 180 days) in which to buy 5 players (of any card type) from auction for this to count. The window the game gives you is quite reasonable and generous for completing this.

What Are the Benefits of Joining Sorare With a Referral Code?

If you join without a referral code, you won't get the free card. Joining with a referral code has no downside — in fact, it's a benefit since you get an extra player :)
