Play Sorare on a Low Budget With Limited Cards! 2022

Sorare is an NFT-based football crypto game beloved by football fans, with popularity that's growing by the day. It's a real-life-based game where you buy players' NFT cards, they earn points based on their real-world performances, and you enter tournaments with a lineup of 5 players, earning rewards based on your total score.

Since the game is played using ETH, and at the time of writing 1 ETH is worth roughly 37,000 TL, it can come with very high costs for players in Türkiye. If you want to build an average team using the game's Rare (red) cards, including a goalkeeper, the cost can come to around 2 to 2.5 ETH. For those who don't want to put up that kind of money right from the start, or who want to get into Sorare on a lower budget, I have a few tactics to share.

How Can I Play Sorare on a Low Budget?

I mentioned in the introduction that starting on Sorare with Rare cards runs to about 60,000 to 75,000 TL, so the one option left when starting out is the Limited -yellow- cards the game recently introduced. Since Limited cards were added to the game this season, there are no cards from past seasons, only 2021-2022 cards. Each season, a maximum of 1,000 Limited cards are minted per player. That number is 100 for Rare (red cards), 10 for Super Rare (blue cards), and 1 for Unique (brown cards). So in terms of both value and print run, Limited cards are the least valuable, which is exactly why anyone who doesn't want to start with a high price tag should enter through the Limited card market.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Starting With Limited Cards?

The biggest advantage of starting with Limited cards is that it minimizes the loss you'd take if you make a mistake while entering a game you're not yet familiar with, since you're using low-value cards. To explain with an example: say you really liked a player and bought them without paying much attention to price or injury status. If that player then gets injured in their last match and, let's assume, won't be able to play for a long time, their price will drop well below what you paid. Since the money you spend on a Limited card is much lower than a Rare card, it won't shake up your budget much or put you under pressure. As with anything, there will be a learning curve and mistakes on Sorare too. Keeping those to a minimum is important, of course, but nothing is learned comfortably in one go, so once you factor that in, practicing with Limited cards will be useful.

What Advantages Does Joining With a Referral Code Give You for a Limited Team?

You can learn about the advantages of joining with a referral code further down in the article, as well as from the link left at the very bottom. To put it briefly, if you join with a referral code, Sorare will gift you +1 player on top of the 5 players you get from auctions.

When building your 5-player squad (it's useful to keep 1-2 extra players on the bench in case of injuries or suspensions), buying the players you want through auctions instead of the market both lets you get them cheaper and completes a quest at the same time. After acquiring the 5 players you want, along with the 1 player the game gives you, you'll have 6 Limited players on your team.

When building your team, since you'll need 1 goalkeeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, 1 forward, and 1 extra player (defender, midfielder, or forward), transferring across every position rather than picking up 2-3 players in a single position will let you enter tournaments. Considering the game gives you +1 extra player for joining with a referral code, and that Sorare tends to gift you a player who plays regularly, you'll get to use that player too and suddenly have 6 players. With this team, you can enter Limited tournaments to test your luck and grow your bankroll.

How Can I Join Sorare Limited Tournaments? What Is the Prize Pool?

To enter a tournament with Limited cards on Sorare, your first requirement is owning 5 Limited cards. You can't enter Limited tournaments by adding cards of any other rarity from your collection.

As with other card types, Limited tournaments have several different leagues. To give a current example, we'll look at the March 15-18 tournaments in terms of participant count and prize pool.

The prize pool varies week to week based on the number of participants. If turnout for the tournament you enter is low, the set rewards are shared among a smaller group, meaning you need better scores and a higher ranking to win a prize. As the number of participants increases, the pool grows.

In the image above, we can see this week's Limited leagues, participant counts, and prizes. To join the All Star tournament, all you need is 5 Limited cards. The prize pool for the All Star league is 0.310 ETH, with a total of 600 cards to be distributed.

If you manage to finish in the top 600, Sorare will gift you a Tier 3 (lowest tier) player. To see which players are given out, just click on the "1x Tier 3 Limited" text. It continues with Tier 2 from 56th to 205th place, and Tier 1 from 16th to 55th...

Which Tournaments Should I Join on Sorare With Limited Cards?

You can make this choice based on the region and league your players play in. If you're drawn to the Asia region and have players from that region on your team, joining the Asia league would make more sense than entering All Star. Since fewer people join that regional league, your chances of winning go up, and you'll also be making efficient use of the players you have.

One of the best pieces of advice I can give is that you should always build an All Star team. The All Star league is the one that distributes the most rewards and sees the most participation in the game. You should regularly field a team there and always be in the running for that prize. After that, you can try building a team for a specific league and compete there as well.

How Can I Move From Limited Cards to Rare Cards on Sorare?

Because the price ranges and their TL equivalents are so far apart, it's not very easy to build a Rare team by selling your Limited cards. But if you do the right things and post good scores with Limited cards, it's not impossible either. The real goal here, though, is to understand the game, master it, and trade it correctly. Once you have the budget and are ready to invest, you can start buying Rare cards as well and enter those tournaments too.

I started playing with Rare cards myself and have stuck with that. I never made the move to Limited cards, but if I were starting fresh on Sorare, this is the path I'd take.

How Big Is the Price Gap Between Limited Cards and Rare Cards?

According to data from SorareData, at the time I was writing this article, Yuma Suzuki's Limited card was priced at 0.145 ETH while his Rare card was 0.630 ETH — a gap of more than 4 times the price. So if your budget is tight or you want to play on a small amount of money, unfortunately, given the economic conditions in Türkiye, starting with Limited cards is your only real option :(

How Can I Join Sorare With a Referral Code?

If you join without a referral code, you won't benefit from the gift card. Joining with a referral code costs you nothing — if anything, it benefits you since you earn an extra player :)
