OSM Away Tactic 2027 (26/27): Best Settings
What to play away from home in OSM 26/27: an away table by opponent formation and strength gap, cautious defensive setups and match preparation tips.
5 min read

In brief
AI summaryAway recommendations are nearly identical to home settings, with squad strength and the opponent’s formation mattering more than venue.
Community tables favor 4-3-3 formations with Wing play, while adjusting pressing, style, and tempo according to the strength gap and opponent setup.
Home teams receive a 2%, 4%, or 6% stadium bonus, so cautious counter-attacking formations may be preferable when a point is sufficient.

The 26/27 community data says something surprising about an OSM away tactic: do not retreat on the road either. In OSM Next Level's tables, nearly every away recommendation is a 4-3-3 with Wing play; the strength gap, not the venue, drives the settings.
There is no "unbeatable" tactic; no setup wins every match. The values below are recommendations from community tools, and we have not tested them. Sources: OSM Next Level's counter tactic tables (23 October 2026) and OSM Helper's site tactics.
How different is away from home?
In OSM Next Level's setting guides, home and away averages are almost identical:
| Setting | Home average | Away average |
|---|---|---|
| Pressing | 63 | 62 |
| Style | 68 | 66 |
In the source's words, venue alone moves pressing very little; squad strength matters far more. What makes away games harder is the home side's stadium. According to OSM Helper's guide, the home team performs 2%, 4% or 6% better depending on its pitch level. So on the road, add that bonus to the opponent's paper strength.

Values are Pressing/Style/Tempo. The game plan is Wing play except in the row marked *, which uses Passing game.

Away rules from the table

- Weaker means lower tempo: Away and weaker against back-four sides, tempo drops to 48–52. The aim is to lose the ball less and deny counters.
- Higher tempo against a parked bus: Even away, tempo is 75 against 6-3-1. According to the source, a back six is broken by ball speed, not pressing.
- Stronger means no backing off: When you are stronger away, style sits between 61 and 74. The idea is to push them into their own half.
- Take the ball from shoot-on-sight sides: Against 4-2-3-1 and 4-5-1, pressing stays at 60 even when you are weaker away. The long-range threat is cut by taking the ball off them.
A more cautious away setup
If the opponent is clearly stronger and a point is enough, OSM Helper has defensive setups flagged for away matches:
| Formation | Game plan | Pressing/Style/Tempo | Away, flagged against |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6-3-1A | Counter-attack | 80/45/50 | Even and stronger sides |
| 5-2-3A | Counter-attack | 70/30/70 | Even and stronger sides |
| 4-5-1 | Shoot on sight | 19/39/69 | Even and stronger sides |
| 5-4-1B | Shoot on sight | 39/29/59 | All situations |
These setups are not built for a specific opponent formation; they are general away options. Five or six defenders give you spare men against their forwards and comfortable zonal marking. The cost is spending most of the match without the ball.
Preparing for an away match

- Scout the opponent: According to OSM Helper, the data analyst shows the opponent's line-up, game plan and aggressiveness; if they used secret training, you cannot see it.
- Check the referee: With orange and red referees, aggressive tackling invites cards.
- Test it in a friendly: OSM's official help page recommends trying tactics in friendlies. According to OSM Helper, friendlies cause no injuries or red cards and do not affect morale or fitness.
What changed since our older guide
Our 2021 away tactic guide was also built on 4-3-3B. The 26/27 data supports that choice, but instead of one fixed setup it recommends values that change with the opponent's formation and the strength gap. The tactics screen is the same.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best away tactic in OSM?
Nearly all away recommendations in the community data use a 4-3-3 with Wing play. The values change with the opponent's formation and the strength gap.
Should I lower pressing away from home?
Venue alone makes a small difference (averages of 63 and 62). The strength gap is what really sets pressing.
Is there an unbeatable away tactic?
No. No setup wins every match; squad strength, the referee and the opponent's settings all change the result.
How big is the home advantage?
According to OSM Helper, the home side plays 2%, 4% or 6% better depending on its pitch level. We could not confirm this figure in an official source.
